Inner City Return With ‘Positivity’ Featuring Steffanie Christi’an
Detroit house pioneers Inner City have returned with ‘Positivity’, a new vocal house single featuring Steffanie Christi’an, released on 16th October through Inner City Detroit. Written and produced by Kevin Saunderson and his son Dantiez, the track continues the group’s latest chapter while maintaining a direct connection to its influential musical foundations.
Built around Christi’an’s commanding vocal performance, ‘Positivity’ brings together uplifting songwriting, soulful expression and the rhythmic drive that has characterised Inner City’s music for nearly four decades.
The release follows ‘Turn Me On’, which arrived through Defected’s Glitterbox imprint earlier this year, and continues a renewed period of activity for the Detroit collective.
The initial two-track package pairs the original production with a Todd Terry KMS Dub, bringing one of New York house music’s most recognisable figures into the project. A further remix collection is scheduled for November, featuring additional Todd Terry interpretations alongside a rework from Detroit producer Chuck Daniels.
The collaboration between Kevin and Dantiez Saunderson is particularly significant within the wider Inner City story. Founded by Kevin in 1987, the group helped bring Detroit electronic music to an international audience through records including ‘Big Fun’ and ‘Good Life’.
Today, the project connects that legacy with a new generation. Dantiez contributes to the group’s production and creative direction, while Christi’an’s vocal presence brings a contemporary soul influence to its enduring house sound.
The new music also arrives as Kevin Saunderson’s KMS Records approaches its 40th anniversary in 2027, placing the release within a wider period of reflection and renewed activity for one of Detroit’s most important electronic music institutions.
Rather than treating its history as something to recreate, Inner City continues to develop the relationship between house music, soulful songwriting and dancefloor energy.
‘Positivity’ is available now via Inner City Detroit, with further remixes from Todd Terry and Chuck Daniels scheduled to follow in November.
