- James Vine releases new single Bones under Itona alias
James Vine announces the first new music under his Itona alias since 2021: the dreamily atmospheric, meditative lofi house cut Bones. Itona an alias of James Vine, aka ENiGMA Dubz - a creative departure from his signature bass-heavy sound. Translated from ‘ito’ (love) ‘na’ (summer) in Japanese, the Itona project was created while he was at home during the UK’s lockdown in the middle of 2020. In response to the challenges many were facing, James set about creating inspired, ethereal electronic music to help himself and others escape the mundane. Like an icicle piercing through a misty sky, new track Bones' cold, eerie atmosphere and stunning electronic soundscapes are complemented by its deep, subtle and pulsating beat. The track gradually builds and unwinds with its quietly effective propulsive percussion giving the arrangement purpose, while still staying true to its organic and lofi vibe with its deep infectious bass motif. One that would do the business in a chillout downtempo house set, to relax with at home or in the headphones while working. Sublime. Bones follows on from the remix of ENiGMA Dubz’ Dawn Chorus on a similar tip, but is the first original music from Itona since the release of 2021's Sleepy EP, which featured live guitar work from Rich Dicas. From lofi and downtempo electronica, to chill house and chillwave - Itona’s music takes you on a dream-like journey as you float in a bubble of bliss. https://music.apple.com/ng/album/bones-single/1662887926
- Interview: French-Italian Duo Camion Bazar and Their New ENEMY DANCE Label
Camion Bazar delivered the third single on their new imprint ENEMY DANCE mid-December, entitled ‘1319 Acai’. Download/stream it via: https://www.beatport.com/track/1319-acai/18375442. “ENEMY DANCE is the brand-new sub-label of Camion Bazar’s Jaki Records, focused on ready-to-dance music. It will be releasing its singles and remixes from its favourite artists. Bangers, fast kicks, hand-made hardware sounds, unique design and emotional hard grooves. Even our enemies will dance!” - Camion Bazar. ‘1319 Acai’ sees Camion Bazar shift focus towards an old-school leaning Techno sound with a heavy focus on intricately intertwined melodious elements, from cinematic, ethereal pad textures and fluttering resonant synth licks through to acid bass stabs and choppy chord sequences, all underpinned by a swinging robust rhythm section. Hi Camion Bazar, thanks for taking the time to talk with us here at UNDRTONE; for those people who may be unfamiliar with your work, could you tell us a little about yourselves and what you do? Hi, we are Camion Bazar, aka Benedetta and Romain Play; we’ve been together for many years: ours is a love story full of music and parties and the need to share our vision. We’ve created Camion Bazar, and next year it will be the 10th anniversary, another excuse to celebrate :) We first started our project with our van, a DJ booth on wheels, touring all around Europe, participating in the best festivals, and curating our own floor. It was crazy. Organic music, vinyl handcraft scenography and respect were featured. Then we started to organize parties, invited guests, collaborated with the underground scene, became Rinse residents, did a Boiler Room, did the artistic direction of a night bar, created two labels, toured as a DJ duo with our hybrid DJ set and now also with our live show. You recently launched your new label ENEMY DANCE and have been unveiling singles of late; the first single “was conceived in a strained atmosphere of people VS police and government confrontations, each track is like a Molotov cocktail, a rock, a cry, a huge middle finger.” And the theme of the label is even our enemies will dance. Can you elaborate a bit more on this for us? In the last few years, in France (and all around the world), there has been a rise of extremism, fascism is back, and the police look more and more like a government militia. The gap between the power and the people is getting bigger. There are a lot of demonstrations and violence. The fear of the police. Fights. Deaths. Laws against freedom. We don’t feel safe in the street anymore. That is why our tracks are nervous. Puns with “Enemy dance” are that the released music is so good that even our enemies will dance. 2023 saw you guys hit the road with your live audio-visual tour, performing live. Could you share with us the set-up of this, what equipment you guys use and if you have any special clips to share? We have a bass guitar, microphone, drum machine (TR8S), acid bassline sequencer (Cyclone), synth (Minilogue, MS1, Bass station ), laptop and controller, many effects pedals, drum pad & loads of cables. But we are working on a 2nd version, and we’ll change our gear so we do not get bored. Camion Bazar is made up of “The Italian Benedetta and French Romain”, we can see from your biography. Could you please both tell us a little about your roots in electronic music growing up in your respective homelands? We were born and raised in different countries and at different times, but we both have deep roots in rock, punk, fusion, and later on in drum’n bass, jungle, hardcore and then electronica, house and Techno. You’re extremely prolific in your contributions to electronic music as “DJs, producers, party curators, label managers, Rinse FM radio residents and live performers.” What drives you guys to do so many different things, and are there any particular things you would cite as influences that keep you inspired to move Camion Bazar forward into the future? When you love something, you’re completely devoted and passionate, and you’re led by a fire in you. Party and music, people’s transcendent states and smiles, and this particular moment of communion on the dancefloor is what keeps inspiring us. Also other artists’ work, movies, books, paintings, current events, and so on. What’s next for Camion Bazar and ENEMY DANCE? We’ll be releasing a new single in December and another one in January. Next September, nice remixes will be released on Enemy Dance, and maybe a vinyl by the end of the year. We’ll also have our new live show V2, the OUT OF CONTROL tour (for our 10th anniversary), our current Voltage residency & another South Asian tour. And hopefully, something unpredictable will happen as well. Lastly, could you both please share with us something that’s been of importance to you lately? It could be a new record you discovered, a book, a recipe, a place or anything else that comes to mind. We must say that the SE Asian tour that we did in October (across Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Hong Kong, rekindled the flame. It has boosted our passion for partying and DJing again. Discovering a new audience, a very wild one, was so inspiring! We also spent a weekend at the D.ko Records studio with the very talented GGGG, jamming for 3 days; it felt so good to make music without a purpose. We really needed that break. And, of course, our current projects are very important and stimulating, like our ten year tour, our next Rex party with Olivia Mendez, summer festivals, nature, our friends, our gig in Italy for NYE, and most of all, our dogs <3 Camion Bazar https://linktr.ee/camionbazar

- Shaping Sounds: The Tracks That Sparked the Vision Behind Yotto Records
Yotto Records is more than just another label launch. It’s the result of years of exploration, trial and error, and a deep-rooted love for dance music in all its forms. Founded by French artists Alya, Simon Erar and TEUS, the label is designed as a space for creative freedom, where groove meets grit and where polished productions don’t come at the cost of raw expression. Their mission? To push boundaries, break formulas and celebrate a sound that’s sharp, bold and defiantly different. To trace the roots of Yotto, you have to look at the tracks that shaped its foundation. Alya, one of the co-founders, has pulled together a handpicked selection that maps his personal influences - from futuristic minimal to emotional closers, gritty edits to genre-defining classics. These aren’t just tunes he likes. They’re tracks that helped him build the aesthetic, energy and ethos behind Yotto Records. “Here’s a selection of tracks that played a key role in shaping my vision and sound and ultimately inspired the launch of Yotto Records. From raw energy to deep artistic exploration, each of these tracks left a mark on my creative process.” - Alya Wheats - It Iz Done Wheats has been the most inspiring artist for me over the past three years. His music has fueled my entire creative journey and is one of the main reasons I felt the urge to start Yotto. This track perfectly captures the kind of energy and aesthetic that pushed me to take that leap. Bagarre - Le gouffre (Yan Wagner Belgian Trip) I’ve always drawn a lot of inspiration from 70s to 90s rock and pop. This electro-heavy remix by Yan Wagner carries a raw, old-school texture I absolutely love. Play it at 130 BPM, and you’ve got a spacey banger that can flip any dancefloor mid-set. Hollis P. Monroe - I´m Lonely One of my favourite tracks to close a set. It’s so melodic and emotional—I honestly listen to it every week, almost daily. It reminds me of the essence of music: raw emotion. Traumer - Luxuria Probably the most inspiring track I’ve come across recently. It’s a true piece of art—both technically and creatively. It became a personal challenge for me to reach that same level of quality and detail in my own productions. Per Hammar - Released Dubb (Mihai Popoviciu Remix) A true masterclass in composition. Nothing is left to chance—everything is dialed in with precision and taste. Mihai Popoviciu is always a safe bet when you’re looking for perfectly crafted minimal tracks. TAKE NOTES - CUTZ 01 Back to my roots—rock and old-school pop aesthetics. This edit flips and samples in unexpected ways, creating a cinematic kind of tension. It’s been a big inspiration when I feel like breaking out of classic structures. PAWSA - HANDZ UP This PAWSA banger is a major inspiration because it proves you can make a hit with almost nothing. It flows effortlessly from start to finish—an absolute dancefloor weapon. Floating Points - Last Bloom I’ll close with the most technically sophisticated track I’ve ever heard. Nothing more to say—just massive respect to Floating Points for this masterpiece. With the ‘Landed Sampler’ dropping on 20th June, Yotto Records sets the tone for what’s to come: forward-thinking music with serious club weight and zero compromises. Pre-order/save it here: https://www.beatport.com/release/landed-sampler/5130162. The compilation features contributions from rising talent across Europe and beyond, including cuts from Color.Love, TEUS, Alya, Simon Erar, raF., Ms. Elin Liso, and more. It’s a clear signal that Yotto isn’t interested in playing it safe. This is music built for open minds, late nights and dancefloors that crave something different. - Mistier Returns With Stunning New Single 'Headspace' Ahead of OFFAIAH Remix
Multitalented, melodic project Mistier starts 2024 in the same vein it excelled in 2023 with another high-quality, authentic and introspective new single. Following in the footsteps of ‘Move With Me’ and ‘Lost My Way’, Mistier’s ‘Headspace’ is soaked in dancefloor-focused grooves, resonant harmonies and relatable lyrics. Mistier’s ‘Headspace’ is available to download/stream from 26th January here: https://ffm.to/mistier-headspace-original. With accomplished musician and vocalist Andre Mistier at its centre, Mistier brings a collective of musical and visual creatives together on a transformative journey towards the dancefloor. The project brings a spiritual perspective to its music, forged through shared experiences on the playa at Burning Man. It’s easy to imagine crowds gathered in the Nevada desert moving to ‘Headspace’ - another shining example of Mistier’s ability to connect at a deeper level - set to the score of movement-invoking rhythms and intricately-woven layers of harmony. Encapsulated in a distinct retro membrane, its undulating 4/4 core of punchy kicks and subtly shuffling percussive drive make the perfect foundation for an expansive array of musical elements that carve out an immersive soundscape, a resonant space for Mistier’s simple yet conscious message. Andre Mistier explains, “This song is about meditation, and about the journey towards finding meditation. If my external experience defines my perspective and mood, then I am subject to the fluctuations of external actions and actors. If things are good, I feel good. If things are bad, I feel bad. But this feels like a fundamentally out of control approach, always at the whim of other people’s additions and intrusions. This led to a need for inner solace, peace that comes from within as opposed to externally. For me, this search led to meditation as an important component of self-harmony.” Breaking new ground in 2024, Mistier opens the creative canvas to some carefully handpicked external licence. The first of these, celebrated house music artist OFFAIAH, best known for his work on Defected, Drumcode, and D4 D4NCE, among others, is set to unveil a signature spin on ‘Headspace’ in February. Mistier’s original and the OFFAIAH remix come with an extra element of creativity in the form of individual lyric videos. Keep an eye out for these standout visualisers online in the coming weeks. ‘Headspace’ by Mistier is released on 26th January, with the OFFAIAH Remix slated for 16th February. - Gorgon City Announce First Independent Album ‘Aether’ On REALM Records
Gorgon City have announced their sixth studio album, ‘Aether’, arriving on 13th November 2026 through their own REALM Records imprint. The twelve-track project marks a significant change for the British electronic duo, becoming their first independently released album following five full-length projects issued through Universal-affiliated labels. For Kye Gibbon and Matt Robson-Scott, the move represents an opportunity to take greater control of their creative direction. Having built an international following through their distinctive combination of house rhythms, melodic songwriting and vocal collaborations, the pair have approached ‘Aether’ without the external pressures associated with their previous album campaigns. “Aether came together so naturally, with no outside pressure,” the duo explained when announcing the project. The album follows 2024’s ‘Reverie’ and features contributions from several established collaborators, including Caroline Byrne, Maximillian, Cloves and Jem Cooke. Its twelve tracks include ‘Only Love’ featuring Byrne, ‘Powerless’ with Maximillian, ‘Everything Started Changing’ featuring Cloves and ‘Oracle’ with Cooke. Alongside those vocal collaborations, the tracklist includes ‘5AM At Bagleys’, ‘Ascending to a Higher Level’ and ‘Can’t Get Over’, suggesting a project that continues to connect Gorgon City’s club-focused foundations with their more melodic songwriting. The release also arrives ahead of a major London headline performance at Alexandra Palace on 28th November, where the duo will unveil a new live show. The performance marks their return to the venue with a live production for the first time since 2019. With REALM Records now providing a home for their own full-length work, ‘Aether’ opens a new chapter in Gorgon City’s career, placing creative independence at the centre of their next release. ‘Aether’ arrives on 13th November 2026 via REALM Records. - Label Lounge: Victor Ruiz Shares His Insights on VOLTA
Victor Ruiz’s VOLTA imprint heads into 2024 in the same vein as it ended 2023, with an unrelenting flow of top-quality releases, the next from Brazilian power duo Wehbba and label boss Victor Ruiz. Their infamous b2b at Warehouse Project in December 2022 was maybe a sign of things to come. After making music together for almost ten years without ever releasing anything, the duo finally found time in Lisbon to craft their first collaborative release, ‘Stand,’ which drops on VOLTA on 16th February. Pre-order/save it here: https://voltarecords.bandcamp.com/album/stand. Ahead of the EP release this Friday, we’re delighted to welcome VOLTA frontman and longstanding techno stalwart Victor Ruiz to Undrtone as the next guest on our Label Lounge series. Hey Victor, welcome and thanks for joining us. Where are you talking to us from, and what have you been up to over the last few weeks? Thanks for having me. I’m home in Lisbon at the moment, where I’ve spent most of January. I took a little break from touring this month, so lots of time in the studio working on some new projects and also spending time with my partner and close friends. Good times! :) Tell us about VOLTA, the influence and vision behind it. VOLTA is a platform to bring people together. I always had a bit of difficulty placing my music, and I know many new artists go through the same, so I thought there was an opportunity to create something special out of it. We have three main pillars: music, community and charity. Music is the main one, of course. I really take my time curating and choosing the songs that I sign. I even help - when necessary - the artists with some direction if they’re open for the best final result. With this interaction comes the community. VOLTA is a place where artists connect and exchange ideas and music and help each other grow. Many artists have collaborations between themselves already. It’s very organic and beautiful. The last part is maybe the most important: charity. We donate 10% of profits to organisations or causes that the artists choose. This part is quite special because it makes artists reflect and choose what kind of causes connect with them, and we get to spread joy and help all over. What artists have released music on VOLTA, and what artists would you like to sign music from in future? Besides myself we have Alex Stein, Wehbba, Christian Smith, Balthazar & Jackrock, Thomas Schumacher, Drunken Kong, Tao Andra, Tomas Otero, Lisa May, Ignacio Arfeli, HNGT, ANDATA, Nico Cabeza, Bruce Zalcer, Lutgens, Martin Kinrus. For future EPs we have also Sama’ Abdulhadi, Mila Journeé, Giulia(IT), TimiR, Nicolas Taboada. Secretly, I’d love to have Maetrik released on the label. Maceo Plex would be amazing, but I just LOVE the vibes of Maetrik. What do you look for when curating releases for VOLTA? Authenticity, quality and being out of the box. The rest doesn’t really matter. What release on VOLTA has had the most significant impact and why? There were a few ones. ANDATA - Play Hard was our first top 1 on Beatport. Tao Andra - Gracias a la Vida had a MASSIVE repercussion in Argentina, and my track “Touch the Darkness” went really high on the charts and is still there. Many sweet moments and great rewards because, in the end, I’m releasing music I love and believe. What other labels are you currently enjoying and why? Ninja Tunes has to be the one. I just love the musical direction and depth of what they release. Also really admire No Art for their events and artistic environment. What is your favourite track ever released on VOLTA, and why? I love them all; I don’t have a favourite. I must say I’m very proud of the whole catalogue of songs we have on VOLTA. Take a look. :) What characteristics make a good label boss? Not being a boss but a friend, a motivator to give and to listen. I’m not doing this to be a “boss”; I just want to help other artists showcase their amazing music and give them a place in this scene. It’s all about generating opportunities for others and being grateful while having a clear direction and a vision. What advice do you have for other potential label bosses and aspiring artists? Know what you want and never compromise on the music because of stupid reasons. I created VOLTA because I was mistreated by many labels, and there were too many “games” that we had to play in order to be able to have a release. Remember: we’re doing this for the music, and this should be the only criterion. Lastly, what can we expect from your label in the coming months? Lots of good music and some events we’re gonna throw around the world. Keep an eye on us; you won’t regret it. ❤️ Victor Ruiz & Wehbba’s ‘Stand’ is available from 16th February on VOLTA. - Maga & Emanuel Satie Release Nostalgic Acid House Cut ‘Love Accelerator’
Following the widespread global success of their Beatport chart-topping collaboration ‘Sleepless’ alongside Sean Doron back in November, long-time studio partners and Scenarios label mates Maga and Emanuel Satie now look further afield, as they land on Frau Blau with their nostalgic new acid house offering ‘Love Accelerator’. Out now via the long-standing Tel Aviv-based imprint, Love Accelerator marks Maga and Satie’s first release of 2024 and is the first track on Frau Blau’s ‘Friends V’ VA compilation. A delectable slice of raw, intricately textured house music, Maga and Emanuel’s expert treatment of digital instrumentation, analogue synthesisers and punchy four-to-the-flour drums delivers in spades. Tempering acid house-inspired vocal samples with old-school euphoria, cascading pads and driving basslines throughout, this latest partnership from the two Lisbon-based producers is yet another remarkable addition to their expansive catalogues. A staple in both artists’ live performances over the past few months, Emanuel and Maga’s ability to captivate listeners with their forward-thinking, ever-evolving sound experiment is second-to-none. - Simina Grigoriu Closes Out 2023 With Remix Of Bullzeye’s ‘Padrobiotic’
Simina Grigoriu closes out 2023 with a debut outing on Movement Recordings. Joining esteemed Indian artist Bullzeye, one of Techno’s leading ladies offers a stunning remix for his B-side ‘Padrobiotic’, which is out now as part of the two-track ‘Kreature’ EP. The title selection 'Kreature' finds Bullzeye operating at his creative peak with a production rich in character and groove. Creating a confident energy from the outset, its rhythmic drive is anchored by tough kick drums, rippling basslines and flashing percussive arrangements, tastefully building to a wild-eyed intensity of growling synths and hypnotic arps. With a breakdown that exudes spirit, Bullzeye pulls from his expansive repertoire, infusing a tension-filled overlay with ominous vocal samples, resulting in a perfect prelude for a powerful drop and heads down finale. The companion piece ‘Padrobotic’ further cements the EP's dancefloor minded ethos. Here, Bullzeye's meticulous design and muscular approach conjures up dystopian visions, as cutting edge sonics and rolling rhythmic structures layer a bed of pulsating beats and driving percussion, for the perfect mid-set style energy boost. The release concludes with Simina Grigoriu making her label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Padrobotic’. Fresh off a contribution to Drumcode’s A-Sides, Vol. 12 collection, her maiden release on Movement Recordings stays true to the harder edge of its source material. Simina takes square aim at the dancefloor, increasing tempo and pace, while adding acid gates, orbiting effects and an uplifting break to spearhead a finale that is equal parts tough and emotive. Bullzeye – Kreature EP (incl. Simina Grigoriu Remix) is out now via Movement Recordings: https://movementrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/kreature-2

Fellow Italian artists Sisko Electrofanatik and Dyno have teamed up for a mammoth collaborative debut for esteemed record label, Kuukou Records. Out now across all streaming platforms, the pair’s new single Sequence X is joined by an impeccable remix from the imprint’s head honcho Simina Grigoriu. The peak-time rolling techno number marks a return to Kuukou Records for Sisko Electrofanatik, who appeared on the imprint back in June with Unspoken. Serving as Dyno’s inaugural offering for the authoritative techno house, Sequence X is an immersive cut with impactful rolling percussion and heady synth injections. Primed for those dark, intimate club nights, the release is a worthy example of Kuukou’s commitment to delivering quality underground music that stands the test of time. Simina Grigoriu’s flawless remix brings this euphoric original into even darker, underground waters. The high-energy edit features crisp percussive hits and rave-ready synth work that gives a more industrial feel to its counterpart. Often stimulated by the influence of her home town of Berlin, Simina’s output represents nothing but raw, enveloping techno that’s as refined as it is imaginative. Launched in 2016, Kuukou records has served as an invaluable platform for the underground community, sharing the authentic perspectives of both established and up-and-coming artists alike. With countless offerings scattered within the imprint’s storied discography, Simina’s Kuukou opuses are fully reflective of the label’s forward-thinking ethos and allow her to present music with unbounded creativity.
