ZYNK’s entry in the Undrtone X Jake Tomas and Paul HG and Friends mix series is a full showcase of his world. One hour. One artist. 100% unreleased music.

The Guernsey-based producer has spent the past few years sharpening a sound that sits comfortably in the sets of Enzo Siragusa, Archie Hamilton, Alisha and others. For this mix, he wanted to pull back the curtain and share the different energies he explores in the studio.

“I’m trying to showcase the different sounds and vibes I love to create,” he says. “Peak time ideas, darker heads down ideas, a bit of everything. I love making lots of different energies and styles.”

The depth in his music comes from the way he builds it. ZYNK works on feel first and structure later. “I usually lay down some basic drums and then move onto the main idea. A lead, a vocal, a bassline. I get the hook down first, then spend more time afterwards getting those drums exactly how I want them.”

He treats each track with care before it ever reaches a label’s inbox. “It’s a feeling. You know when a track is good enough to send out. If you are still excited after listening for ten hours straight, then you know you are onto something.”

Recent work with the Syntho training platform has pushed him even further. “Working with Syntho is amazing. The team does an incredible job. What I have learned inside the platform has taken my production to the next level and given me new ideas I can carry into my own work.”

His current setup is evolving, too. “I am building a new studio in my new house next month. I cannot wait to be in it. The Soundtoys bundle is essential for what I do, and the Yamaha RM1X is a bit of gear I always go back to.”

Creative ruts are part of the process, and he has his own way of breaking through. “I take inspiration from other producers, dig for samples, listen to mixes, search for old records. Sometimes three notes spark your next idea. My best tracks came from ten or fifteen minutes of digging before I even selected a kick drum.”

One track in the mix captures his current direction. “No Going Back is a good reference point. I used elements from it to make three or four more, so it sums up where I am right now.”

Feedback from labels and artists is something he values. “If it is a no, I want to know why. Whether it is the mix, the idea or the vibe, I want to know what they were looking for.”

While he cannot announce anything yet, the release folder is ready. “I have quite a few tracks finished. This mix is a sample size.”

ZYNK continues to rise through consistency, character and craft. This mix captures all of it in its purest form.
