Spencer Hardwick’s Introspection EP is a gentle exploration of perception, memory, and the delicate fabric of reality. Released via his own label VAST Recordings, the project unfolds with calm assurance, creating space for reflection rather than demanding attention.
Its opening track “Are These My Memories” sets the tone with drifting synths and understated tension. It’s a patient piece, where melodic lines intertwine like distant recollections resurfacing in slow motion. Instead of overwhelming the listener, it draws them inward, into a quiet dialogue with self and sound.
“Is This Real” continues that contemplative energy. Subtle arpeggios shimmer beneath a layer of moody textures, evoking the uncertainty of dreamlike thoughts. There's a quiet beauty in its restraint—Hardwick isn't here to deliver answers, only to encourage the questions.
The final original, “Why Can’t I Tell Anymore,” closes this trio with grace. Delicate distortion and a slow, undulating rhythm offer a sense of unresolved reflection, making it the most emotionally raw track on the EP.
Both remixes of “Are These My Memories” provide complementary takes. Mike Derer’s version is a glowing, psychedelic rework that expands the sonic landscape with intricate details. Jason Patrick’s remix brings a dubby pulse and thoughtful movement, never rushing, always evolving.
Introspection is aptly named. It’s a carefully crafted journey, unhurried and deliberate, designed for deeper listening. Spencer Hardwick’s music invites pause, a rare quality in techno, and reminds us that sometimes, the quietest moments carry the most weight.
