GRAMMY-winning producer and global dance music heavyweight AFROJACK has made his debut on Loco Dice’s Desolat with new single ‘Monopoly Man’.
Released on 14th August, the track continues the Dutch producer’s recent exploration of deeper, more club-focused territory, connecting one of electronic music’s biggest crossover artists with an imprint firmly rooted in the underground.
At the centre of ‘Monopoly Man’ is AFROJACK’s instantly recognisable synth lead, a sound that has become closely associated with his productions throughout his career. Here, however, it is placed within a stripped-back framework of rolling bass, crisp percussion and driving drums.
The result showcases a different side of AFROJACK without abandoning the production characteristics that made his music recognisable in the first place. Rather than leaning towards the large-scale EDM sound associated with much of his catalogue, ‘Monopoly Man’ prioritises groove and club functionality, with an arrangement suited to late-night dancefloors as much as festival stages.
The release adds another chapter to an evolving period for AFROJACK, who has increasingly explored underground electronic sounds alongside the mainstage productions that have defined much of his international career.
His arrival on Desolat also marks a notable meeting between two distinct areas of dance music. Founded by Loco Dice, the label has spent almost two decades establishing itself through groove-heavy house and techno, making AFROJACK’s first appearance on the imprint an intriguing addition to its catalogue.
With ‘Monopoly Man’, AFROJACK continues to broaden the scope of his output while bringing his unmistakable production identity into a deeper club setting.
