Retrouve have just dropped their debut album 'Feel So Right' on the mighty Amsterdam label PIV.
It’s the kind of project that feels lived-in - real. From the first track to the last, it captures a duo in sync with each other and their sound - one that leans deep, warm and groove-heavy, with touches of soul, emotion and low-end club power.
Eight tracks - no filler. Grab your copy here: https://www.beatport.com/release/feel-so-right-lp/5055405.
Barna Frits and András Komáromi, the pair behind Retrouve, have been at it for years. They started DJing together at 10 years old in Hungary, eventually moving to the Netherlands to chase something bigger. That journey’s now landed them on PIV’s debut album roster - no small feat for a label that rarely misses. “This album is basically the culmination of the past two years,” they told us. “From peak time energy to deep after hour beats to catchy melodic festival tracks - there’s every aspect of house music we love in this package.”
Originally, 'Feel So Right' was just meant to be an EP. But after getting early nods from PIV heads Prunk and M-High, the project evolved into a full-length. That’s because they already had a pile of unreleased heaters - the kind of stuff that’s been ID’d and played by big names like Chris Stussy, Enzo Siragusa and Hot Since 82 over the past couple of years. The LP pulls those ideas together into something solid, something with intention. “We wanted to make something that shows our sound from every angle,” they said.
You can hear the years in it. Retrouve aren’t newcomers in any real sense - they’ve been making music together for over a decade, trying out different genres, sharpening their tools, and landing on the sound they love most. “We’ve been using Ableton since day one,” they told us. “It’s got everything we need. But we still love hardware - our TR-8S is probably our favourite. We’ve got our own sample SD card loaded into it, so it’s perfect to build a groove or layer up a loop.”
We premiere 'Stereo Love' from the LP below:
Living in Amsterdam helped open things up. After moving from Budapest, they met M-High who signed their first EP to PIV in 2022. Since then, they’ve also put out music on Surge Recordings and played a steady behind-the-scenes role on the label team.
When asked what track might be the best entry point into their music, they pointed to 'Cherry Bomb'. “It’s one of the most personal tracks we’ve made. It doesn’t really sound like anything else, so it represents us well.” You can hear that. It’s not just another loop or DJ tool - it’s got its own shape, its own pace.
They’re not slowing down. There's already another EP lined up on one of their dream labels - and while they didn’t name names, they teased it’s from one of the DJs already supporting them. They're also launching a Bandcamp series to build out their own platform and give their sound a proper home.
Beyond music, they’re reflective too. Barna recently picked up a copy of 'Who Moved My Cheese?' from a flea market - “It’s short, but it really shifts your perspective on how to approach problems in life.” András has been deep into 'Dopamine Nation' by Anna Lembke, diving into how overstimulation is wrecking our ability to focus. “It’s made me reflect a lot on how I live day to day.”
Retrouve have put the work in. They’ve built something that’s true to them. 'Feel So Right' isn’t just a debut album - it’s a statement. Not chasing trends. Not copying the sound of the moment. Just house music, done their way.
