Josh Burnett launches his first release on Stacey Pullen’s Blackflag Recordings with a powerful three-track EP titled ‘Jus Tryin’. A rising name in Manchester’s electronic scene, Burnett delivers a statement of intent with a sound built on rolling drums, R&B vocal chops and a distinct UK edge. We’re premiering the second track, ‘My Lovin’, a tight, driving groover packed with crisp percussion, looping female vocals and subtle shifts that keep the energy locked in. Built for dark rooms and hot terraces, it’s a proper DJ tool that still carries plenty of character.
“This EP was put together in early 2025 and worked heavily around catchy vocals and rolling drums. I sent ‘Jus Tryin’ over to Stacey a few days later after it was finished, and he was really keen to get this out on Blackflag. I was so pleased when Stacey asked if I wanted to sign this to Blackflag as it’s such a legendary label, run by such a great person. It’s a label I really want to push my sound out to, so it feels great to be finally getting this out. I really hope everyone enjoys the music,” says Burnett.
The EP kicks off with the title track ‘Jus Tryin’, setting the tone with skipping percussion, groovy basslines and warped vocal loops. Final cut ‘Don’t Ya Know’ strips things back even further, locking into a more minimal groove that still moves with intent.
Already gaining support from names like Jamie Jones, Marco Carola, Joseph Capriati, wAFF and Mason Collective, Burnett’s sound is clearly resonating. With ‘Jus Tryin’, he steps out with confidence on one of Detroit’s most respected imprints.
