Portuguese producers Padre Guilherme and Diego Miranda have joined forces on ‘Fado’, a two-track EP released through Lux Aeterna Records that brings Portugal’s traditional musical heritage into the world of melodic techno.

Released on 2nd October, the project arrives during a significant period for Padre Guilherme, who made his debut in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs ranking at No. 79. Announced on 6th October, the result marks his first appearance in the annual poll and places him among the world's 100 most popular DJs, as voted for by the public.

Featuring fado singer Marta Alves and Portuguese guitarist Rui Poço, ‘Fado’ combines traditional instrumentation and expressive vocals with contemporary electronic production. Rather than treating fado as a decorative influence, the collaboration places its musical and cultural identity at the centre of both compositions.

Opening track ‘Nada Te Perturbe’ draws inspiration from a poem written approximately 500 years ago by Saint Teresa of Ávila. Its message of patience, inner peace and spiritual resilience is carried through Alves’ emotive vocal performance and Poço’s Portuguese guitar, set against the melodic techno arrangements of Guilherme and Miranda.

The second track, ‘30 Moedas De Prata’, takes its title from the 30 pieces of silver associated with Judas Iscariot’s betrayal of Jesus. Written by Padre Guilherme, the poem explores the tension between material wealth and human values, questioning the pursuit of money, fame and power at the expense of friendship, love and dignity.

Musically, both tracks explore the contrast between fado’s expressive, often melancholic character and the rhythmic momentum of electronic dance music. The Portuguese guitar and traditional vocal delivery remain prominent, while the electronic elements introduce a different sense of scale and movement.

That relationship between heritage and innovation forms the foundation of ‘Fado’. The EP presents Portuguese musical tradition as something capable of evolving through collaboration, without losing the cultural identity that makes it distinctive.

With Marta Alves and Rui Poço providing the traditional foundations and Padre Guilherme and Diego Miranda shaping the electronic arrangements, ‘Fado’ offers a meeting point between two musical worlds that rarely share the same space.
