MSTRY Explores The Darker Side Of UK Dubstep On ‘Not The Same’ With Nina Arya

Emerging producer MSTRY has joined forces with vocalist Nina Arya on ‘Not The Same’, a brooding, bass-heavy single that marks a decisive move towards the darker reaches of UK dubstep.
Released on 15th October, the collaboration follows this summer’s ‘Electric In The Air’ and offers another glimpse into MSTRY’s developing sound as he prepares his debut EP, currently expected in 2027.
Operating within the 140 BPM framework, ‘Not The Same’ balances atmospheric tension with heavyweight low-end pressure. Pulsing bass and abrasive lead synths contrast with spacious, cinematic breakdowns, allowing Arya’s vocal to take centre stage before the production gives way to deeper, more aggressive drops.
Beyond its dancefloor impact, the track carries a distinctly confrontational message. Arya’s performance explores frustration and disconnection from those in positions of power, giving the production an emotional weight that extends beyond its darker sonic palette.
“Not The Same introduces the darker, heavier side of my production - the sonic space where I feel most at home,” MSTRY explains. “Balancing gritty, atmospheric sounds with a careful attention to melody, the track serves as a defiant statement.”
The collaboration also brings together two artists with contrasting backgrounds. Arya has already attracted support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music and the BBC Asian Network, alongside appearances at Reading and Leeds, Latitude and BBC events.
MSTRY, meanwhile, arrives with years of experience engineering and producing music for other artists across multiple genres. Now establishing his own identity, he is directing that technical background towards the UK’s bass music underground, drawing on the weight and rhythmic experimentation of contemporary dubstep.
His debut single ‘Electric In The Air’ received early recognition from Beatport, including placement in its Best New Trap/Future Bass playlist.
With further collaborations planned ahead of his debut EP, ‘Not The Same’ establishes a more uncompromising direction for MSTRY, bringing together melodic detail, vocal intensity and the physical force of 140 dubstep.
