Green Velvet And Detlef Reunite For ‘Work With Me’ On Trick

Green Velvet and Detlef have reunited for ‘Work With Me’, a new collaboration released through Patrick Topping’s Trick Recordings.
The single follows the pair’s recent ‘Bounce UR Body’ collaboration on Cloonee’s Hellbent Records, which picked up DJ support from Pete Tong, A-Trak, Gorgon City and Tony Romera.
‘Work With Me’ puts Green Velvet’s unmistakable vocal presence at the centre of a driving house framework. A heavy, elastic bassline provides its foundation before Velvet delivers the track’s defining refrain: “Life with me may not be easy but it’s simple, work with me.”
It is an approach that plays directly to one of Curtis Jones’ greatest strengths. Across decades of releases as Green Velvet and Cajmere, the Chicago artist has repeatedly turned distinctive, often unconventional vocal hooks into enduring club records. Here, that personality sits against Detlef’s tightly engineered dancefloor production, keeping the record functional without stripping away its character.
The release adds another collaboration to a career that stretches back to Chicago house’s 1990s resurgence for Jones, whose catalogue as Green Velvet has included work alongside artists such as Carl Craig and Claude VonStroke.
Detlef represents a different generation of house music but brings an equally club-focused catalogue. The Greek producer has released across Hot Creations, Repopulate Mars, Solid Grooves and Defected, while his Issues imprint has developed into another outlet for both his own productions and music from emerging artists.
Following ‘Bounce UR Body’, their second recent collaboration suggests the partnership has found an effective middle ground. Detlef provides the low-end pressure and tightly controlled groove, while Green Velvet supplies the vocal personality that can turn a functional DJ tool into something immediately recognisable.
