Dan The Drum & Carmy Love Unite On ‘Hurt So Bad’

Man in blue cap and gray "RAVING" sweater stands by green wall. Woman in red heart-shaped glasses and black outfit smiles in studio.

Back in 1965, Little Anthony & The Imperials cut deep with ‘Hurt So Bad’, a slow-burning heartache wrapped in soul. Over the years, it’s passed through many hands, each adding a new shade: Grant Green’s guitar lines, Nancy Holloway’s fire, Philly Devotions' smooth touch, and Etienne de Crécy’s very cool late-night twist with ‘Prix Choc’. Now for 2025, the song gets a tasty new re-do, courtesy of London’s own Dan The Drum and rising soul siren, Carmy Love, together putting their own stamp on things in glorious Brit-Soul-House-Latin-Jazz style! With Darren Morris on keys laying velvet foundations, Joseph Nesbitt-Larking bringing jazz-flecked guitar lines, and Carl Davies sliding in with a silky smooth sax performance, the sounds track boasts some heavy musicianship skills whilst Carmy’s spine-tingling soulful tones cut through like a hot knife through butter.

Dan “The Drum” Spalding has DJ’ed alongside the likes of Norman Jay MBE, Dave Lee, Craig Charles, Brandon Block, Ashley Beedle and Huey Morgan and the FAITH crew, to name but a few. He’s worked with Carmy Love before on the ‘UK House Sermon’ – a collab with Stu Patterson, including remixes from Xpress-2 and North Street West. Carmy Love is a rising force in UK soul music, known for her rich, emotive vocals and timeless sound and you’ll definitely be hearing a lot more of her!
