Boom Merchant is back on his record label Tribal Pulse with a dark and tantalising techno EP that also features two breakbeat remixes by Hockins.
This release is hot on the heels of Boom Merchant's recent EP on T78's Autektone Dark, and it features driving tracks that combines captivating synths and heavy percussion.
Originally from Ireland, but currently based between Glasgow (Scotland) and Mexico City (Mexico), Boom Merchant is well known for being a resident DJ at the underground nightclub, Surge Glasgow. He also has an international following leading to shows in countries ranging from Germany to Japan.
On remix duty, Hockins is a Ukrainian artist and Tribal Pulse favourite, who is making his fifth appearance on the imprint with two reworks in his trademark bass-heavy style. He has also released on other labels such as Elektroshok Records, Banana Club and 83.
"Regroup & Lounge" is the release's title track, and its booming kick drum and rumbling bassline lay a foundation for a fluttering melody synth that cuts through the ominous atmospherics. Emotive vocals and rippling pads add spine-tingling tones, which create a spellbinding dark and light contrast with peak time energy.
"Arparp" is second of the original tracks, and it's an industrial techno cut with thrashing percussion and speaker-tearing synths that create a raw and stripped-back groove.
First of the remixes, Hockins offers the 'Atmo Remix' of "Regroup & Lounge," which is a hardcore rave rework that adds an old-school percussion loop plus an acid bassline to the original's vocal and pads.
The second of the remixes from Hockins, 'Blue Remix' of "Regroup & Lounge" is a UK Garage rework, which adds two-step rhythms and a throbbing bassline to the original's vocal.
