BBE, the independent record label and East London record store, has launched a petition seeking support ahead of a review of its premises licence. The business operates a record shop and event space at Arch 376 in London Fields, where it has been based since 2016.

According to the venue, complaints about noise have increased following residential development nearby. BBE says it has worked with Hackney Council on measures including noise limiters and acoustic curtains, but concerns raised by some neighbouring residents have continued.

The review raises a familiar question for London’s music community: how can long-established cultural spaces coexist with new residential development? Independent venues often operate on tight margins, and restrictions on events can affect financial viability.

BBE’s history stretches back to 1996, when it began as a club night before developing into a respected outlet for soul, hip-hop, funk, disco and jazz. Its physical space provides more than retail, supporting record discovery and cultural exchange.

The petition calls for BBE to retain its existing licence arrangements. The review process is ongoing, and the outcome should not be presumed. Supporters can find further information through BBE’s official channels.
