Charlie Tee, host of BBC Radio 1’s Drum & Bass show, stepped up to help a loved-up fan propose to his girlfriend in front of a crowd of 2000 at her Unitee party - part of Under, a massive 3-day dance music event under the Nene flyover in Peterborough, organised by Mixology.
Drum & Bass fan Nick Clarke met his girlfriend Annie Harper a year earlier at Charlie Tee’s first Unitee party at Under. He messaged Charlie to say they were returning to the same spot for Unitee’s early May bank holiday event at Under this year, and that he wanted to propose to the love of his life.
At the event, Charlie announced she wanted to take a photo of the incredible crowd raving beneath the flyover as the traffic rolled over above and selected two apparently random people from the crowd for the photo. Only when Nick dropped to one knee and the message ‘Nick B2B Annie 4 Eva?’ appeared on the big screen did Annie realise what was happening.
The 2000 strong crowd of ravers had already enjoyed huge sets at Unitee from the likes of Sub Focus (who released his own video from the event that has gone viral with stunning drone footage: https://link.kiffix.com/subfocusunder), Turno, and A Little Sound. This followed a Friday of UK Garage from big names like Kurupt FM, So Solid Crew, and Heartless Crew, and a Saturday of house that saw Hannah Wants, Prunk, Latmun, Route 94 and more take to the outdoor stage as the sun went down.
Despite the incredible music and unique location, one moment stood out above the rest as, with tears streaming down her face, Annie said yes and the crowd erupted in cheers. Charlie Tee took to the decks to play the happy couple’s favourite Drum & Bass tune 'No One Else' by Wilkinson, Kanine & Clementine Douglas to dance on stage as they all celebrated the engagement together.
The amazing moment was captured on film and Charlie Tee shared the video last night showing how the whole plan came together. Drawing breath today Annie called the moment ‘the best day of my life’ while Charlie Tee posted part of the well-known message, ‘Couples who rave together, stay together.’
