  • Audio-visual art platform Gun Raven launches with Swim the Shine EP

Swim the Shine launches his new record label and audio-visual arts platform Gun Raven, with the Stealth Mode EP: a darkly atmospheric, deep techno cut backed up with remixes from techno royalty Timo Maas. Swim the Shine is 95% organic and may contain a DJ, a VJ and an electronic music producer from Budapest, Hungary. He has played venues in London, Barcelona, Budapest, Montreal, Paris, Freiburg, Porto, Berlin as a DJ or a VJ... but his main mojo shaker is the creative real-time combination of interactive visuals with melodic techno and progressive house. Career highlights include playing drums at the opening ceremonies of the London Olympics in 2012 (under the guidance of Rick Smith of Underworld and Danny Boyle) and being a finalist of the Moscow Circle of Light VJ Competition. His current focus is, building a solo audio-visual performance and developing his new label, Gun Raven, into a platform for audio-visual art. Launching Gun Raven is the Stealth Mode EP, which was written by Swim the Shine on a plane to Moscow in 2017, on his way to the Circle of Light VJing competition. The expression, ‘stealth mode’, was a running joke with somebody he used to know there, hence the original title was Stealth Mode Moscow. But a few years have passed… and a lot has changed. Stealth Mode is a dark, hypnotic, deep techno cut, packed full of creeping synths and warped industrial tones, and comes back up with stellar remixes from techno royalty Timo Maas, who delivers two distinct reinterpretations, both of which crackle with electrifying intensity. Gun Raven is a record label - and more. A platform for audio-visual arts. An offspring of the digital. They are what our parents can’t understand and what they may not approve of. They are a link in the chain and racing toward the future - a future we soon won’t understand. But they are here now and they will burn while they can. They are 21st Century Rock ’n’ Roll. https://www.instagram.com/gunraven

  • Bauarbeiter der Liebe get Haunted on Phonique's Zatar Music

New on Zatar Music, the new label by Phonique, is a three track release by Bauarbeiter der Liebe. The EP kicks off with the title track, Haunted, a low-slung house groover with an amazing vocal. The track showcases incredible production, merging sparkling synths with killer drums and a warm, melancholic feel. The vocal is something else, delivered in a husky, world-weary tone with honest, crafted lyrics that push this track into the realm of classic. The EP is augmented by two additional versions, one from the label boss himself Phonique, who toughens up the groove and leads the track into deeper territories. It’s honed directly for the dancefloor, but maintaining the essential elements that make the track so special. Also included is a radio version which focuses on the crossover potential of the vocal. Bauarbeiter der Liebe (Love Builders) managed to hack the the usual club night. The combination of back-to-back DJ action by Lutzer and Tille with interspersed improvisations by Pätte from trumpet, keys or bass works multidimensionally. Playlist and dancing crowd unite euphorically and the atmosphere is particularly special when the music is filtered out and Pätte's trumpet reverberates through the room. Then these fleeting moments arise in which you feel that this is the right place at the right time with the right crowd. Patrick Föllmer, Lutz Hartmann and Tilmann Jarmer have already released music together as “Lilabungalow”, “Klinke auf Cinch” and “Alfred Quest”. Bauarbeiter der Liebe sound more like a club by comparison.

  • Status Zero unveils 3 track EP in anticipation of epic ‘aliens & Flowers’ Album

Status Zero impressed with recent single ‘alien 303’, unveiling a new album was on the way and teasing fans with an impressive first single from it. Now, the Berlin-based, Israeli native returns with a 3 track EP, adding to ‘alien 303’ with 2 new singles that further unveil the interstellar exploration Status Zero has undertaken with his forthcoming album. While ‘alien 303’ was all about the acid line from the start, ‘if it was us?’ begins with warm pads, and puts the focus on building that atmosphere. That creates the tension for the first drop perfectly, which arrives with a warm rolling bass and sparse, heavily reverbed percussion. A repetitive melody is introduced, but this single is all about space, while continuing to evolve throughout. ‘Bad Memory’ utilises a dark vocal and skippy melody from the beginning, to give fans a taste of what they can expect from the third and final track of the EP. Trademark arpeggiated leads sit atop the beat, perfectly highlighting the extraterrestrial theme that runs throughout the whole release. A theme that is set to be fully explored upon the release of the full album soon. On the new EP and slowly unveiling his album project, Status Zero said, “I created 'if it was us?' because I wanted people to rethink themselves during this "trip" about if they are on the right path in life, sometimes humans need to stop and have a good deep discussion with their insider, and reflect on what they love or hate in them, and learning to accept them as they are now with no self-judgment.”

  • Tim Engelhardt returns to Poker Flat with Follow

Tim Engelhardt returns to Poker Flat Recordings for the first time since his First Contact release in 2020. In the meantime the German producer and DJ has been gracing other fine labels such as Stil Vor Talent and Watergate Records, but Poker Flat is delighted to welcome back his distinctive deep and effecting approach to tech house with his new EP Follow. Follow is a highly musical track – the live-sounding drums give it a motorik feel, while the bubbling synths and melancholic, jazzy keys bring an element of depth and sophistication. Burning is a techier cut, with a thick, rounded bass and some of Tim’s trademark tension building synth lines. It’s the perfect soundtrack for the upcoming festival season. Follow is out 03 June on Poker Flat

  • Status Zero drops ‘Alien 303’ and Announces New Album ‘Aliens & Flowers’

The shackles are off for Israeli native Status Zero, as he unveils a new sound with ‘alien 303’, the first single from newly announced album ‘aliens & Flowers’. Choosing to let go of perfection and not be constrained by boundaries, Status Zero has worked hard through a period of reflection to hone a new aesthetic that is free of preconceptions, rules and expectations, using only his hardware and expression to craft his new vision as an artist. ‘alien 303’ is the exciting first product of that shift in mentality, and will have fans excited to hear more. ‘alien 303’ kicks off with a hypnotic acid line that evolves in the opening stages before dropping to a heavy kick and bassline combination. The acid pattern swiftly returns to add to the tracks already driving nature. The key theme of the track here is evolution. Another melody is added to accompany the existing musicality, but ‘Alien 303’’s strength lies in its sparsity, with minimal elements used to maximum effect. The breakdown utilizes clever use of LFO to create space for the extraterrestrial vocal to shine, ensuring the track is as out of this world as the name suggests. On ‘alien 303’, Status Zero said: "I want the listeners and future fans to appreciate the historical impact of the tb 303 on the music we love today, from Aphex Twin to Tame Impala, the sound of 303 was always there to take us to a whole different musical dimension" ‘alien 303’ is only the start of this new chapter for Status Zero, and if this first single is anything to go by, there is plenty more to come that will ensure he propels himself into the stratosphere with his new music and build anticipation for his forthcoming album.
