  • Dee from Drunken Kong: Tokyo’s Techno Titans Bring the Heat on Drumcode’s A-Sides Vol. 13

Drunken Kong, the Tokyo-based techno duo, has hit another milestone with their inclusion in Drumcode’s prestigious A-Sides Vol. 13 compilation. Their track, “Dance All Night,” is a powerful showcase of their signature style, combining infectious energy with razor-sharp production. As part of a lineup curated by Adam Beyer, the compilation features a mix of techno veterans and fresh faces, and Drunken Kong’s contribution holds its own among the stellar offerings. Download/stream 'A-Sides Vol. 13 here: https://drumcode.ffm.to/dc318. When we spoke with Dee, one-half of Drunken Kong, it was clear how much thought and passion went into creating the track. “I wanted to create a track with a strong groove,” he shared. “I was searching for some samples and came across the vocal sample, which led to the energetic groove and hook.” The vocal riff, “I just wanna dance all night,” is the heart of the track, weaving through growling basslines, slamming stabs, and tension-building sirens to create a hypnotic anthem designed for the dancefloor. The A-Sides series is one of Drumcode’s most celebrated releases, and being part of it is a significant moment for Dee and his music partner. “It’s a great honour to be part of this monster compilation,” he said. “Every year, there are so many great tracks. I’m always excited when the A-Sides is released.” Their journey with Drumcode began with a solo EP in 2023, followed by a collaboration with Bart Skils in 2024. Each release has brought new opportunities and expanded their reach. “Releases on Drumcode have definitely opened many doors,” he added. “I’m also very happy that my music is reaching a wider audience, which is the ultimate goal for me as an artist.” For Dee, his music is deeply tied to his home base of Tokyo, where he and his partner are residents at the legendary WOMB nightclub. “I live in the centre of Tokyo, so things are busy once I step out, which naturally inspires me to work on things that have energy,” he explained. This energy is palpable in “Dance All Night,” a track that mirrors the intensity of Tokyo’s nightlife. Dee’s ability to channel that raw power into something musically cohesive is no accident. “I try to keep things simple so that there is space to include strong beats and synths,” he said. “When there are too many things going on, each part loses its power.” Working with Adam Beyer and the Drumcode family has only fueled his creativity. “I just do what I feel at the time,” Dee said of crafting tracks for such a prestigious label. “Thinking too much confuses me, and I often lose track of what I was trying to do.” This intuitive approach has resonated with fans worldwide, with Drunken Kong’s tracks regularly charting on Beatport and dominating dancefloors. “For me, the most important thing is power and groove, and I feel this is the part that resonates with my fans.” The sirens and drops in “Dance All Night” are prime examples of his talent for creating high-impact moments. “I always imagine an energetic dancefloor and try to figure out how to make everyone go crazy,” he laughed. His music represents Tokyo’s vibrant club culture and aims to inspire the next generation of producers. “Releases are very important. It’s the way to show who I am, being based here, and I hope to inspire the younger generation to get into music production.” Dee shows no signs of slowing down, with a remix slated for January and a new EP on the way. Their inclusion in A-Sides Vol. 13 is another step in their journey, and as he teased, “Stay tuned!” Through his relentless dedication and ability to translate Tokyo’s energy into globally resonant techno, Dee is cementing Drunken Kong’s place as one of the genre’s most exciting acts Drunken Kong https://www.facebook.com/DRUNKENKONG https://www.instagram.com/drunkenkong https://www.tiktok.com/@drunken_kong https://open.spotify.com/artist/2c8K7cdY2IU2jBacPOxYqk https://soundcloud.com/drunkenkongjp

  • Massimo Logli: Crafting 'Origins' and Redefining Techno

Massimo Logli's rise in techno has been a story of passion, perseverance, and an unrelenting drive to push boundaries. Over the past year, he's captivated audiences at some of Italy's most iconic venues, including Cocoricò and Bolgia, and delivered electrifying performances at festivals like Resonance, Sonar, and Decibel Open Air. With his debut album Origins on the horizon, Logli is poised to cement his status as one of the most exciting talents to emerge from Italy's thriving techno scene. Pre-order your copy here. Reflecting on the past year, Logli shared how humbling it has been to share stages with industry heavyweights like Reinier Zonneveld, Fatima Hajji, and Sam Paganini. "Performing for a large crowd brings a lot of energy," he explained. "I thank the promoters for their trust in my ability to warm up for all these leading artists." Among his many gigs, one memory stands out: his set at Resonance on Easter Monday at the Mandela Forum. "Having a large audience allows me to give more than 100% of myself and fully enjoy the moment. I had so much fun and hope the audience appreciated it." The forthcoming album, Origins, is a deeply personal project for Logli. He describes it as a sonic journey through dance music's past, present, and future—a tribute to the sounds that shaped him as an artist, reimagined for today's hard techno scene. "By listening to a lot of music and mainly playing techno tracks in my warm-ups, I decided to create something that truly belonged to me," he said. "A blend of '80s/'90s sounds with a fast-paced rhythm, 145 BPM techno." To bring his vision to life, Logli collaborated with renowned producers Gianni Bini and Hollen, weaving together their expertise in house and techno with his meticulous approach to sound design. "I acted as the common thread, and with my ideas, I achieved a very challenging task," he explained. The result is an album combining nostalgia and innovation, resonating on a visceral level for techno purists and mainstream audiences. Music has always been a guiding force for Logli, shaped by electronic and dance music pioneers. "I was born during the explosion of electronic music, and artists like Giorgio Moroder, Cerrone, Gino Soccio, and the entire '80s wave heavily influenced my musical choices," he shared. Certain tracks have left an indelible mark on him, including Chase by Giorgio Moroder, Children by Robert Miles, and Dancer by Gino Soccio. More recently, Ben Böhmer's Father Ocean has captured his imagination, even though he admits, "it has nothing to do with the world of techno, but it's profoundly impactful for me." His residency at Block @ Black Zone has been another significant milestone in his journey, offering him the chance to perform alongside some of techno's biggest names. "When you play before a Big Artist, you need to warm up the dance floor. So, you must study the artist and stay below the sound the headliner will later deliver," he said. These experiences have shaped his approach to performing and his work in the studio. Superba Records, the label Logli founded, has been instrumental in realizing his artistic vision. "I created my own label because it allows me to release my tracks, which otherwise might struggle to gain visibility in the infinite world of labels," he said. While he's proud of the recognition Origins has already received—from DJ Mag Italy, Vicious Magazine Spain, and Faze Magazine Germany—Logli remains focused on the future. "In the near future, two other albums, each very different from the other, will be released. I can't wait to dive into them. January and February will be two months of hard work." When asked for advice for aspiring artists, Logli emphasized the importance of staying true to oneself. "Simply be yourself and don't copy others," he said. "Experiment, experiment, and experiment some more." This philosophy has guided him throughout his career, helping him stand out in an ever-evolving techno landscape. Massimo Logli's Origins LP will be available on December 20th via Beatport and Spotify. With his passion for blending the familiar with the unexpected, Logli is proving himself as a visionary artist redefining what it means to make techno in the modern age. • Jhojho: From Underground Roots to Hot Creations

Since his debut in 2022, Greek-born DJ and producer Jhojho has carved a path through the underground house scene with impressive speed. Gaining support from industry heavyweights like MK, Mau P, and Low Steppa, his unique sound has already made waves. With releases on Detlef’s Issues label and his BBC Radio 1-supported collaboration ‘Shut Up!’ with the label head, Jhojho’s career is steadily rising. Now, he’s marking a significant milestone with his debut on the iconic Hot Creations label, releasing the captivating single ‘Horny’ – a track that pays homage to Mousse T.’s timeless house anthem. Download/stream it here: https://orcd.co/hotc246. For Jhojho, joining Hot Creations is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. “After following the label for a long time, it feels surreal to be joining the Hot Creations family and that Jamie embraced my sound,” he says. “The idea behind ‘Horny’ was to create a simple but effective modern groove with a classic vocal, and I’m glad to have worked with Mizbee, who did an amazing job on the vocals.” The track, which Jamie Jones has already championed, boasts thick, driving drum kicks, booming low-ends, and sultry pitched-down vocals from Mizbee. The funky backdrop builds effortlessly, creating a track that is nostalgic and fresh. “I always love to play around and experiment with vocals as most of the times vocals play a key role in my music,” explains Jhojho. “As soon as I decided to pitch down the vocals, somehow everything came up naturally. I wanted to create a modern minimal groove while keeping the vibe from such a timeless vocal.” The success of ‘Horny’ is made all the more significant by Jamie Jones’ support at high-profile events, including the legendary Paradise at Amnesia in Ibiza. “Getting support from artists like Jamie Jones always boosts your morale and confidence,” Jhojho shares. “Seeing him play ‘Horny’ at key dates across summer, including Paradise at Amnesia and Lovefest 2024, was something that really encouraged me to work even harder in the studio.” It’s clear that Jhojho’s journey to this point hasn’t been easy, but his dedication to evolving his sound has been key. “Since my early days as a DJ, I’ve been a big fan of artists like Louie Vega, Dennis Ferrer, Phil Weeks,” he says. “Dance music moves forward rapidly these days, but every time I listen to a classic house record from the 90s or 00s, it hits totally different. That’s why I can never say no to a 909 open hi-hat, for example.” Much of Jhojho’s musical growth has been influenced by his role as the head of his label, Techords. Drawing on his experience as an A&R at Daylight Robbery Records, he’s cultivated a strong network and a keen ear for fresh talent. “Listening to music from other producers always influences me in a positive way,” he says. “For me, two of the most important things in running a record label are keeping a tight schedule and approaching artists in a kind, friendly, and professional way.” Looking back on his summer, Jhojho reflects on the importance of moments shared with friends, such as playing with Detlef at the Issues label night during Sonar Festival in Barcelona. “Traveling to play your music is always nice, but when you do it with your best mate, it’s totally different,” he says with a smile. As Jhojho continues to rise in the industry, the future is looking brighter than ever. “Definitely the most important reward so far was when Jamie messaged me, saying that he wanted to sign ‘Horny’ on Hot Creations,” he recalls. “That day will help me in the future to keep pushing with my music.” With exciting collaborations on the horizon, including EPs with Detlef on Take Notes and Moan, and a solo single set for release in January 2025, Jhojho is poised to make even more waves in the electronic dance music scene. “I’ve been working a lot in the studio these past few months, and I already have a few releases scheduled for 2025,” he reveals. “The first one is a solo single release on my imprint Techords, dropping early in January.” Jhojho’s journey is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and ability to push his sound forward while honouring the roots of house music. With ‘Horny’ on Hot Creations, it’s clear that this is just the beginning for this rising star. Jhojho Instagram / Soundcloud Hot Creations Instagram / Soundcloud / Twitter

Kyiv-based electronic talent SHADU has taken another significant step in her musical journey with the release of her new Afro House EP, Lost & Found, on EarthVox Records. Stream or download the Lost & Found EP here: Lost & Found - EarthVox Records. The EP features two standout tracks: the deeply personal title track Lost & Found and the darker, more hypnotic Voices. For SHADU, the title track represents a turning point in her life and her music. “Lost & Found is a very personal track for me,” she shares. “A few years back, I nearly lost the person I loved. His life was in danger. That day, my life was divided into before and after.” This life-altering experience, she explains, led her to reassess her values and ultimately turn to music to express her emotions. “I swore to myself that I would never live like I did before. I will learn to value every moment of my life.” The track’s soaring lyrics — ‘Lost and found in the echoes of my mind / I’m gonna shine, shine, shine / I’m gonna shine, shine, shine’ — echo SHADU’s newfound vitality and her journey towards reclaiming her passions. As she explains, Lost & Found blends intricate percussion with emotive melodies to create an intimate and universal sonic journey. SHADU’s ability to merge soulful emotion with vibrant, danceable rhythms is a hallmark of her music, evident in both tracks. “For me, it’s all about finding that sweet spot between emotion and energy,” she reveals. “When you’re on the dancefloor, I want you to be able to let go, dance, and feel a boost of energy from the beats. I also hope you find the answers you’ve been searching for.” The second track, Voices, takes a darker, more hypnotic direction, exploring the emotional depth SHADU has become known for. “When I was writing ‘Voices,’ I was exploring a darker side of my musical palette,” she explains. “I wanted to create something that was both haunting and alluring, something that would draw you in and leave you feeling unsettled.” The track’s trance-like grooves and layered textures transport listeners into a world where the boundary between the mystical and the real fades away. SHADU’s journey as a producer has been equally transformative. Starting as a vocalist, she quickly gained attention for her powerful voice and dynamic delivery. As she honed her production skills, she seamlessly integrated live vocals with cutting-edge beats, giving her music a fresh edge. “I’m constantly searching for fresh sounds to give my listeners the best experience,” she says. “I believe that pushing boundaries and stepping outside the box is how you grow as an artist.” Her fusion of live performance and production has become a signature of SHADU’s artistry, which she treasures deeply. “I really love performing and connecting with people. It’s a joy and so much fun for me to share my passion with them. I give it my all, and I think that’s probably why I’m so full of energy on stage. It’s incredible how much energy I get from my audience.” Beyond the music itself, Lost & Found reflects SHADU’s resilience and drive to create music that speaks to people worldwide. With the ongoing challenges her hometown of Kyiv faces, SHADU has found strength in her artistry, focusing on making music for a global audience. “Kyiv hasn’t really influenced my music because I create music for the whole world,” she explains. “Music speaks a universal language, it allows me to share my message of hope and resilience with everyone, no matter where they’re from. I believe music can bring us together and create a sense of unity.” With her new EP marking an exciting new chapter, SHADU is already looking ahead. “This EP is just the beginning of what’s to come,” she shares excitedly. “I can’t wait to show you the new tracks I’ve been working on. 2025 is going to be amazing!” For fans and newcomers alike, Lost & Found is a powerful testament to SHADU’s growth as a producer and a performer.
