Tribal Pulse is a techno-focused record label making a statement with their new compilation, Manufacturers of Modern Dancefloor Weaponry.
As the title suggests, this 10-track release is full of bombs that are ready to blow up the dance floor, and it delivers on that promise.
None of the artists who feature are heavyweight names, as there isn’t a Jeff Mills, Ben Klock, or Adam Beyer in attendance. This does not detract from the quality of the music, and simply highlights how much exceptional talent the techno scene has right now.
The release features music from Obsidian Wave, Boom Merchant, Fractious, Calum Connell, Moog Conspiracy, Iluna, Homma Honganji, Lefrenk, Hockins, and Fragile X. Each track brings its own flavour, and it has styles ranging from hypnotic techno to breaks.
Covering most bases, the release has standouts such as Boom Merchant’s “Smoke,” which combines churning percussion and tranquil pads into a heady groove with brooding intensity.
Fractious’ “Link in Time” stands out due to its morphing synths and rippling rhythms forming a captivating groove. Moog Conspiracy’s “Zuppl” is a smouldering techno track that unfolds with building suspense, and Homma Honganji brings the heat with his ‘90s inspired “Golden Fugue.”
This is a great collection of tracks that showcase a selection of up-and-coming producers who are doing great things in the underground techno scene.
