Tommy Phillips releases his ‘Fixation’ EP on neXup recz as a clear statement of intent, delivering three club-focused records that place impact and identity at the centre of the project. Built for peak-time environments and late-night settings, the EP balances functional house pressure with a more direct personal presence through Phillips’ own vocals, giving the release a defined character without drifting away from its club foundations. The title track, ‘Fixation’, opens proceedings with intent. Driving drums, coarse low-end and sharp melodic phrasing form the backbone of a record engineered for high-energy moments. A bold vocal hook cuts into the arrangement without softening its edge, striking a balance between immediacy and weight. It is a track designed for rotation, and it finds its way quickly into DJ sets, where its direct structure and recognisable topline allow it to hold its own in demanding club contexts.

‘Something Happening’ shifts the tone while maintaining forward pressure. Looser in swing and more playful in delivery, the track introduces thicker drums, a buoyant groove and an old-school sensibility drawn from the New York house lineage. Hints of classic East Coast attitude run through the production, but the delivery remains contemporary, with crisp modern sonics keeping the track grounded in the present.

The EP closes with ‘Deja Vu’, a deeper and more considered cut that moves further into late-night territory. Mood and momentum sit side by side as Phillips introduces a more soulful energy without sacrificing club function. The track also completes a distinguishing feature of the release: Phillips performs vocals across all three records himself, a rarity within underground house production.

Across the EP, ‘Fixation’ presents a producer in control of his sound and comfortable placing himself at its centre, delivering music that works in the club while carrying a clear sense of authorship throughout.
