After closing the chapter on his influential Involve Records, Regal is back with something fresh, fast and fierce. Out now, 'Avalanche' marks the debut release on his new label Backspin Records - a project built to reignite the sound of early 2000s Hardgroove Techno.
Made for peak-time sets, 'Avalanche' hits hard. Pounding rhythms, rolling basslines and crisp, Latin-infused percussion drive the groove. Sharp stabs and chopped vocal fragments inject tension and movement. It's stripped back, high energy, and full of intent - a modern spin on the era that shaped Regal's sound.
Backspin isn’t a nostalgia trip. It’s a return to roots with a forward-facing vision. Influenced by the gritty funk of labels like Primate, Theory and Pornographic, and artists such as Ben Sims and Michael Burkat, Regal is carving out space for a new wave of techno built on groove, not gimmicks.
While Involve redefined 90s Acid and Trance-infused techno, Backspin turns the focus to the 2000s - and brings it back with serious heat.
There's more to come. A soon-to-be-announced pioneer of the genre joins Backspin in May with a massive four-track release. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for this one, it’s going to be a biggie!
With 'Avalanche', Regal sets the tone: bold, functional, and built for the floor. Backspin isn’t just a label - it’s a movement.
