MikeR has released ‘Like A Spark’, a new Progressive House single that brings together the melodic and club-focused elements increasingly defining his productions.
Sitting between Progressive House, Trance and Melodic Techno, the track reflects MikeR’s preference for emotionally driven electronic music without losing sight of its dancefloor purpose. Rather than committing completely to one of those genres, ‘Like A Spark’ pulls recognisable elements from each into a bright, steadily evolving arrangement.
Vocals and chord progressions establish the track’s melodic foundations before a pulsing low end begins adding weight underneath. Layered synths gradually widen the arrangement, with melodic riffs and increasingly forceful percussion pushing the track towards its more energetic passages.
The vocal remains a consistent presence throughout, providing a focal point as the surrounding production shifts between lighter melodic sections and driving beats. That contrast between atmosphere and impact gives ‘Like A Spark’ much of its character.
It is also representative of the direction MikeR has been developing across his recent output. Melody remains central to his productions, but his approach increasingly combines that emotional quality with arrangements designed to translate into a club environment.
Rather than treating Progressive House, Trance and Melodic Techno as clearly separated influences, MikeR uses their shared characteristics as a foundation. Expansive synth work sits alongside more direct rhythmic elements, while vocal progressions give the music a narrative quality beyond its instrumental components.
‘Like A Spark’ builds on that balance, offering another look at a sound centred on melody, movement and gradual progression while continuing to develop MikeR’s identity as a producer.
