JUST2 Refines His Late-Night Sound on ‘Close Your Eyes’

JUST2 has never forced his way into attention. Since first landing within the Solid Grooves ecosystem in 2022, his rise has come through consistency rather than noise, built on records that slot seamlessly into the deeper, more stripped-back corners of the label’s sound. There’s a clarity to what he does. Groove first. Function always. Everything else follows.

That approach continues on ‘Close Your Eyes’, but there’s a noticeable shift in tone. The track leans further into darkness, more immersive, more heads-down, designed for those later hours when the dancefloor is already locked, and the energy needs to be sustained rather than sparked.

“I wanted to explore a more atmospheric and deeper side,” he explains. “After my previous releases, I felt it was the right moment to go darker and more immersive. Something that works especially well in the late hours of the night.”

That instinctive shift says a lot about where he is creatively right now. There’s no attempt to follow patterns or second-guess what might land. The direction comes from feeling, and that’s something he’s become more confident trusting over time.

“Right now, my sound is deep tech house with tight minimal grooves, subtle melodic touches, and a constant rolling energy that keeps the dancefloor moving for hours.”

It’s a simple definition, but it holds. His records aren’t built around obvious hooks or big melodic payoffs. Instead, they move through rhythm, through tension, through small details that keep things evolving without ever needing to shout. On ‘Close Your Eyes’, that focus is clear from the first bars. Punchy drums, tightly wound low-end, crisp percussion. Everything is placed with intent.

For JUST2, that late-night functionality always comes back to one core element.

“For me, a late-night track stands out when the bassline is really strong and melodic. The bass is the key. It has to carry emotion and groove at the same time.”

That balance between weight and feeling is what keeps people engaged when the room is already deep into the night. It’s not about pushing energy higher; it’s about holding it in place and giving it somewhere to sit. That’s where his music operates best.

Working within a more minimal framework only sharpens that focus. With fewer elements in play, there’s no space for anything that doesn’t serve the groove.

“I focus on making every element work together perfectly. In more minimal tracks, the groove comes from the relationship between the kick, bassline, and percussion.”

That relationship is where the detail lives. The swing, the spacing, the micro-adjustments that most people won’t consciously notice but will feel instantly on a system. It’s also where his workflow has changed the most.

“I’ve become more patient, and I pay more attention to the small details. Earlier, I was focused more on capturing energy fast; now I take extra time to refine the arrangement.”

That shift towards patience is reflected across ‘Close Your Eyes’. It doesn’t rush to prove anything. It settles into its own space and lets the groove do the work, which is exactly what you want from a track built for extended sets.

Those sets have played a big role in shaping how he approaches production. Playing for long stretches forces a different perspective. You’re not just thinking about impact, you’re thinking about flow, about how a track behaves over time.

“When I produce, I always think about how the track will behave in a long DJ set. Whether it can build energy, create a special moment, or blend smoothly with other records.”

That understanding feeds directly into the studio. It’s why his records tend to feel flexible, able to move between moments without locking themselves into one specific purpose.

Support from names like Marco Carola and Richie Hawtin has reinforced that direction, but it hasn’t changed it.

“It’s been a big confidence boost. Knowing that artists like Marco Carola, Richie Hawtin, Michael Bibi and Pawsa have played my tracks regularly gives me extra motivation to keep pushing.”

The key is that the validation hasn’t pulled him away from his own instincts. If anything, it’s done the opposite. It’s given him the confidence to stay in his lane and refine it further.

That same clarity carries into his work outside of releasing music. Running labels has given him a sharper A&R perspective, one that feeds back into how he approaches his own output.

“I learned what makes a track stand out and how important a strong identity is. Now with my new label HEAROES, that experience helps me a lot.”

It’s all part of a bigger picture. Artist, DJ, label head. Different roles, but all feeding the same core idea. Music that works in the club without needing to overcomplicate it.

After all this time, that’s still what drives him.

“The love for the groove and the reaction I get from the dancefloor still drive me the most.”

It’s a simple motivation, but it’s the one that lasts. Finishing a track and imagining how it will land on a system. How will it sit in a set? How will it hold people in that moment a little longer?

With ‘Close Your Eyes’, JUST2 leans further into that mindset. No unnecessary shifts. No distractions. Just a deeper, more controlled extension of the sound he’s been building within Solid Grooves for the past few years. It doesn’t try to be anything else. It doesn’t need to.
