German DJ and producer Iman Hanzo steps onto major label ground with the release of ‘Phakama’, out now via Warner Music. Buy/stream it here: https://wmg.click/Phakama.
A rich Afro Deep House cut, led by euphoric melodies, rolling percussion, and powerful vocal chants, ‘Phakama’ means ‘rise’ in Zulu. It’s a soulful call to resilience and personal growth, and marks a significant new chapter for Hanzo following the release of his 2024 debut album ‘Clouds’.
The track draws from Hanzo’s travels and spiritual influences. From Egypt to Iceland, his global perspective shines through in the music’s emotional depth and organic textures. ‘Phakama’ feels both expansive and personal, meditative in mood but made to move.
“‘Phakama’ means rise – to me, it’s about dignity, courage and movement,” says Hanzo. “Music that hits the body but leads the heart.”
The single’s cover art, a calm portrait of Hanzo taken six years ago in Hamburg’s Stadtpark, echoes the stillness at the core of the track.
‘Phakama’ also sets the tone for Hanzo’s next move – the launch of his very own festival. ‘The Triangle’ lands in Hamburg on 12 July, with a heavyweight line-up that includes Claptone, Jaden Bojsen, WITH U, and Hanzo himself.
This Warner debut cements Hanzo’s position as one of the most distinctive and spiritually driven artists in the Afro house space.
‘Phakama’ is more than a summer tune; it’s a statement of intent.
