HARLEY GIRL Turns A Forgotten Vocal Into Dancefloor Mischief On ‘I Know The DJ’

Australian producer HARLEY GIRL has returned with ‘I Know The DJ’, a playful new single that turns a rediscovered vocal into a punchy, attitude-filled club track.
The idea emerged during an unexpected rummage through his own hard drive, where HARLEY GIRL stumbled across a folder of vocal recordings sent by fellow producer and creative collaborator Callie Reiff around a year earlier.
Originally intended for an unfinished demo, one particular phrase immediately caught his attention: “I know the DJ”. Its cheeky, self-assured delivery provided the starting point for an entirely new production, with HARLEY GIRL building the track around its personality rather than forcing it into an existing arrangement.
The result leans into the more mischievous side of club music, combining cut-up vocal elements with punchy grooves and a deliberately playful attitude. There is an element of humour to the record, but its rhythmic foundations ensure the joke never comes at the expense of dancefloor impact.
“I think the most exciting part for me was just finding the vocal,” HARLEY GIRL explains. “I feel as if the whole track painted itself for me before I’d started making it.”
That instinct shaped the production from the outset. Rather than overcomplicating the concept, he allowed the vocal to dictate the direction, experimenting with rhythmic cuts and arrangements until the track found its balance between humour and intensity.
“It had to be silly, self-aware and a little bit tough,” he adds, describing the combination of characteristics that ultimately defined the finished record.
‘I Know The DJ’ captures the spontaneity that can make electronic music so effective, taking an overlooked idea and giving it an entirely new purpose. What began as an unfinished collaboration has become a club-ready release with a personality of its own.
