Fresh off a cosmic EP with Reggie Watts, genre-hopping dance trio CAPYAC are back with a new single that doesn’t let the energy drop. ‘U Know Y’ is out now, and it’s everything we’ve come to love from the LA-via-Austin outfit – bold, weird, playful and primed for movement. The track builds slowly, looping vocals and a bouncy bassline into a hypnotic house groove. It channels the spirit of early Detroit house, filtered through French disco, and lands somewhere that feels euphoric but reflective. You can hear it bubbling under sweaty club lights or soundtracking a 3am kitchen afters – depending on how the night’s going.
Delwin, Eric and new member Obie wrote the track to break through the everyday greyness. But in true CAPYAC fashion, their statement on it goes off-road fast. There’s mention of a proto-fish crawling onto land 375 million years ago and finding moss comforting in a hostile world. The metaphor? We’re all just Tiktaalik trying to survive, and this tune is your wet moss.
The single follows the success of Songs From A Celestial City, their 2024 collab EP with Reggie Watts. That release fused loose, soulful house with irreverent humour and psychedelic energy – a perfect distillation of both artists’ worlds.
CAPYAC are now midway through their Spring 2025 tour, supporting Rubblebucket across North America. Los Angeles has already sold out, with headline shows in Brooklyn and Chicago coming up. Expect improvisation, sweaty dancefloors, and absolutely no predictability.
