- Farouki Steps Up for the Latest UndrCtrl Guest Mix
Next up in our UndrCtrl Guest Mix series is Toronto’s own Farouki, who’s been turning heads with a slick blend of old-school flavour and forward-thinking club energy. His recent ‘Freedom To Be’ EP, out now on Stacey Pullen’s Blackflag Recordings, captures exactly what makes his sound stand out. On the A-side, the title track leans into classic hip-house vibes—tight percussion, rolling grooves, and nostalgic vocal cuts that give the whole thing a proper late-night feel. Flip it over to ‘Peeple’ and you get something a bit more hypnotic. Farouki chops and warps a vocal sample into a tight rhythm that bounces with purpose. It’s club music that knows its roots but isn’t afraid to push into new territory. Download it here: https://www.beatport.com/release/freedom-to-be/4948629. In this mix, Farouki brings the same freedom and fluidity he talks about in the studio. Expect crisp drums, subtle vocal hooks, and that blend of old and new that’s fast becoming his signature. Whether you’re in the middle of a set or winding down at home, this one’s built to keep you moving. Farouki’s already had releases on DPE, Mood Child, Rawthentic, and Of Unsound Mind, with support from names like Marco Carola, Skream, Paco Osuna, and Stacey Pullen. But this mix shows where he’s at right now—in the zone, sharp with the selections, and stepping confidently into his sound. Luca Agnelli - Ah (Pirupa Remix) [Etruria Beat Records] “This Pirupa remix is magical. After so much time, it still works for me, and I find it incredible. The playful Latin vocals and rhythms make it perfect for warming up the atmosphere. I love it.” Azzido Da Bass - Dooms Night (Timo Maas Remix) [Frenetic Music] “Wow! Since my musical heritage is in southern Spain, breakbeat is widely consumed. I remember having a version of this breakbeat format as a child. I recorded a cassette with the original ones, one after the other. I couldn’t get tired of listening to them. It’s one of the songs that defined my childhood. Timo Maas’ remix helps me fit it perfectly into my sets and bring that energy to the dance floor. It’s incredible!” Ruben Mandolini - Also! (2015 Rework) [Snatch! Records] “This track is perfect; my taste is based on cleanliness and forcefulness, and that catchy vocal always makes this song appear by surprise in my sets. I’ve been playing it for years, and I never get tired of supporting it.” Traumer - Hoodlum [DESOLAT] “A song with elegance, a melody so catchy you could listen to it for days. I love it! It’s a classic for me, and for the sentimental moments in my sets, it’s a must!” Loco Dice - Definition (Nic Fanciulli Remix) [Saved Records] “No matter how many years go by, this track gives me the groove I need sometimes; it has a ball of very juicy bass that makes it one of my favourites.” Blackchild (ITA) - Fuego [Revival] “Blackchild is one of my favourite producers because of his blend of Latin sounds with super-heavy bass. This track wasn’t released that long ago, but it’s perfect for me. It’s a crowd-pleaser and usually fills the house with ease... it almost always appears at my shows.” Detlef feat. Ossey James - Swagon [Repopulate Mars] “I love this track! The vocals and the playfulness are perfect. I’ve been playing the remix for a year now, and people react really well to it. This song brings back very good memories.” Kollektiv Turmstrasse - Sorry I Am Late [FFRR] “I love thumping bass that destroys walls, and this track is awesome; it brings together a very juicy broken synth, and the mix of this makes it incredible for me.” Cuartero - Liquido [Hot Creations] “I like clean music that is very forceful; this song has those characteristics; the bass is super wide; for me, it is indispensable; I love this Cuartero production.” Format:B - Chunky [Ministry of Sound Records] “And finally, I can’t stop pressing play on this song for my dance floor warm-ups to take people out of the movie; it’s perfect!” With these picks, Ismaso continues to set the bar high, delivering the kind of vibrant house music that’s synonymous with his name. Catch the release of ‘Que Pasa’ and ‘Subbo’ on Motel Calypso Records, available from March 28th, and get ready to experience the heat live on the dancefloor. Ismaso Instagram - Soundcloud - Beatport

- AJ Christou: Crafting Grooves, Breaking Boundaries, and Bringing Vibes to XOYO
Manchester-born AJ Christou has carved out a unique space in house music, driven by a relentless passion for beats that move crowds. He’s bringing that energy to XOYO London on 22nd March, joined by friends Daniel Orpi and Charlie Iapicone for a night he’s personally curated. Tickets are available here: https://ra.co/events/2087176. AJ reflects, “I love playing in the capital, and headlining XOYO makes it unique. It’s my first time there, and I’m excited to get in and do my thing. I love reading and working the crowd—that’s the plan for Saturday night.” Known for groove-heavy, percussive house, AJ’s meticulous approach shines through: “I always start with drums. Once the groove’s right, the bassline and other elements come easy. For me, drums are everything.” This philosophy has earned him loyal support from industry giants like The Martinez Brothers, Jamie Jones, and Damian Lazarus. “Honestly, it’s still as exciting now as when it first started happening,” AJ explains. “These guys inspired me to do music full-time. Their support and bookings keep me motivated and hungry.” His new label, V-House Sound, embodies his open-minded approach: “V-House has no boundaries—I just want to sign good music. We encourage artists to experiment and provide alternative versions of their tracks, even across different genres.” This creative freedom also defines AJ’s current production style: “I’m no longer chasing labels or main room plays. I’m following the music, embellishing grooves with proper chords, conveying emotion through the machines.” Upcoming collaborations with talents like LiTek and legends like Robert Owens underline this evolution. Reflecting on his Manchester roots, AJ highlights influences like Sankeys and Warehouse Project: “I got to see the best, week in, week out. Those days still inspire me.” His global gigs, from intimate clubs to massive festivals, have provided surreal moments, including handing over to his hero Luciano at Hi Ibiza: “It was a full-circle moment—very special.” Outside music, AJ finds inspiration in everyday life: “Keeping healthy, spending time with family and friends, movies, nature—anything that feeds the soul.” Looking ahead, AJ hints at an exciting 2025, notably his first solo EP on Damian Lazarus’s Crosstown Rebels: “Getting a solo release there was a major goal. This led to me playing for Damian this summer in Ibiza—another full-circle experience.” As AJ Christou’s journey continues, each new chapter feels essential. His XOYO night promises nothing less than pure house energy, keeping dancers locked in until the last beat.
