We’ve been listening to ‘Release’ from Tinlicker, and it feels like a shift rather than just another single.
It still carries that familiar melodic DNA, but there’s something more direct about it. The groove lands quickly, built around a thick low end and clean percussion that keeps everything moving without overloading the arrangement. From there, ‘Release’ opens up through layered synth work that balances warmth with a slightly sharper edge.
The vocal plays a bigger role this time. Hero Baldwin’s addition to the project feels central, not just an extra layer. Her voice cuts through the mix with clarity, sitting right at the front of the track and shaping how everything else unfolds. It adds a human weight that contrasts with the more mechanical feel of the synths underneath.
That tension is what stands out most. ‘Release’ leans into the space between organic and synthetic, with robotic textures sitting alongside more emotional melodic moments. The track never feels pulled too far in either direction, instead holding everything in a steady balance.
Compared to earlier Tinlicker material, this feels more intentional in its message. The production still works on the dancefloor, but there’s a clear idea running through it, especially in how the vocal interacts with the arrangement.
We’ve found it sits well in that transition space in a set. Not quite peak-time, not quite a reset, but something that pulls people back into focus.
‘Release’ feels like a sign of where Tinlicker are heading next, both in sound and in how they approach their music moving forward.
