When you think of modern house built on real groove and connection, Ramin Rezaie is one of the first names that comes to mind. With two decades of graft behind him, the Solid Grooves resident and SILKY Records boss has earned his stripes the long way, through authenticity, consistency and a deep love for the dancefloor.
Now, he kicks off the brand new Undrtone X Jake Tomas & Paul HG + Friends mix series with a set that captures exactly where he is musically in 2025.
“It’s a real honour to kick things off,” says Ramin. “For this mix, I wanted to showcase how my sound is evolving at the moment. I’ve been experimenting a lot lately, so I wanted it to represent where I’m at musically right now. It’s packed with unreleased material, both my own productions and tracks from artists I’ve been supporting heavily. The idea was to give people a raw, upfront taste of what I’ve been playing and what’s been inspiring me recently.”
That sense of spontaneity runs through everything he does. “Honestly, I like to keep it natural,” he says. “I’ll pull together some tracks I’m feeling at the moment, could be something I produced last week, a tune I’ve just been sent, or even a record that’s been sitting in my crate for 20 years. Once I hit record, I just let it flow and see where the energy takes me. That spontaneity is what makes a mix feel alive.”
Ramin’s sound has always been rooted in groove, not trend. “The main thing is connection,” he says. “I only play records that genuinely resonate with me. I don’t follow formulas. If I’m feeling a garage record, I’ll drop it. If a breaks tune fits the moment, it’s going in. It’s about keeping things fresh and unpredictable while maintaining a strong sense of flow. I want to take people on a journey that’s fun, vibey, but also educational.”
From DC10 to fabric to Amnesia, Ramin has played some of the most iconic booths in the world, but one night stands above the rest. “Playing the terrace at DC10 for the first time was definitely a standout moment,” he says. “That booth and dancefloor are legendary. Being up there and seeing the crowd connect with what I was playing was surreal. It’s one of those memories that will always stick with me.”
Across a catalogue that spans Solid Grooves, Moxy Muzik, Muse and Deeperfect, Ramin’s output has earned support from Jamie Jones, Marco Carola and Michael Bibi. But choosing where a record lands is all about instinct. “It’s about the vibe and connection,” he says. “I usually share my tracks with my close circle first, people I trust and respect, and see where they think the music fits best. If it feels right for a label, I’ll send it over. It’s about finding the right home for the track.”
That dedication is what’s kept him inspired for 20 years. “It’s just the love of music,” he says. “The way it connects people is so organic and powerful. Seeing how a record can change the atmosphere of a room never gets old. The scene keeps evolving, and that keeps me motivated to evolve with it.”
The minimal deep tech sound he’s championed continues to grow, and Ramin is helping shape its next chapter. “It’s been amazing to see how much the sound has expanded,” he says. “My plan is to keep pushing it forward, putting out quality music, supporting emerging artists and continuing to make noise with my productions and labels. It’s about keeping that energy alive and helping the scene move in a positive direction.”
The support from industry heavyweights has been humbling. “When you see DJs you’ve looked up to for years playing your tracks, it’s incredible,” he says. “It gives me confidence that what I’m doing is connecting beyond my circle. It also pushes me to keep improving. I never take it for granted.”
Looking ahead, he’s got plenty lined up. “I’ve got a remix dropping at the end of the month on Blackchild’s NIAMA, which I’m really excited about,” he says. “Then in November, a new single on my own imprint SILKY Records, and another big remix in December that I can’t quite reveal yet.”
Two decades in, Ramin’s drive hasn’t slowed. His advice to his younger self says it all. “Keep going. Stay patient, trust the process and enjoy the ride. You’ll get to do what you love every single day. Every step has been worth it.”
Ramin Rezaie’s mix for Undrtone X Jake Tomas & Paul HG + Friends is live now. Expect groove, energy and the unmistakable sound of a DJ still leading from the front.
