Originally released on Strictly Rhythm in 1994 and written by Louie Vega and Ron Carroll, ‘I Get Lifted’ became a defining soulful house record of its era, driven by Tucker’s unmistakable vocal performance.
More than 30 years later, Gray and Tucker have returned to the track with a new club-focused production that retains the feel-good spirit of the original while bringing its sound firmly into the present.
Gray’s uplifting keys sit at the heart of the remake, surrounded by a warm, rolling house groove and polished instrumentation. Tucker’s vocals remain the focal point, reconnecting the record with its roots while giving the pair space to reshape it for contemporary dancefloors.
The collaboration has already received an emphatic response. Gray and Tucker debuted their new version together earlier this month on the Fool’s Paradise stage at Electric Paradise festival, before the track went on to claim the No.1 position on Traxsource.
For Tucker, the remake revisits a record from a catalogue that helped define the vocal and soulful house sound of the 1990s. Her career has since included releases and collaborations through Strictly Rhythm, Defected, King Street and her own BStar Music Group.
Gray brings his own considerable house pedigree to the project. The UK producer’s catalogue spans releases through Glitterbox, Toolroom and Z Records, alongside his Sultra Records imprint and recent album ‘You & Me’.
Their meeting on ‘I Get Lifted’ connects two generations of house production around a record that has remained part of the genre’s history for more than three decades.
