An inquiry is currently in progress following a blaze at the Masquerade Club in Istanbul that resulted in the death of 29 individuals and left several others wounded.
According to the BBC, a fire started at the 1000-capacity nightclub in the Gayrettepe district of a residential building in the Turkish city on Tuesday (2nd April) just after midday. The nightclub is situated on the ground floor and basement of a 16-storey building.
The club was closed for construction, which was planned to happen in the building. The individuals affected were believed to be workers at the site. The exact reason for the fire has not yet been determined.
The justice minister, Yilmaz Tunc, stated that the police have detained five individuals for interrogation, including the club managers and those responsible for the building renovations.
According to a statement from the Istanbul governor's office, at least one individual has been hospitalised, as reported by Sky News.
