Joris Voorn Reimagines Dave Clarke’s Techno Classic ‘Wisdom To The Wise’
Joris Voorn has revisited one of British techno’s most enduring records, delivering a new remix of Dave Clarke’s 1994 classic ‘Wisdom To The Wise’ for his Spectrum Music imprint.
Originally released as part of Clarke’s influential Red Series, ‘Wisdom To The Wise’ remains a fixture in techno’s collective memory more than three decades later. Its uncompromising rhythmic approach helped establish the record as an underground favourite, making it a particularly significant piece of material for Voorn to reinterpret.
Rather than attempting to overhaul the original, the Dutch producer retains its driving techno foundations while introducing the melodic detail and atmospheric depth that have become hallmarks of his productions.
Heavy, rolling drums anchor the remix as metallic chords spread across the arrangement, creating a sense of scale without compromising its physical impact. Subtle glitchy percussion and evolving pads gradually increase the tension, before warmer, Detroit-influenced synths bring a more emotive dimension to the track.
The result draws a clear connection between Clarke’s raw 1990s techno and Voorn’s contemporary production approach, balancing the original’s intensity with a more expansive, melodic sound.
It is familiar territory for Voorn, whose two-decade career has moved between immersive techno, melodic house and ambient music. Alongside releases through his Rejected, Green and Spectrum imprints, he has developed an extensive remix catalogue spanning artists including Underworld, Röyksopp, Dua Lipa and Vintage Culture.
His interpretation of ‘Wisdom To The Wise’ adds another chapter to that catalogue while introducing Clarke’s original to a new generation of dancefloors.
Dave Clarke’s ‘Wisdom To The Wise’ (Joris Voorn Remix) is out digitally on 9th October via Spectrum Music, with a vinyl release following on 13th November.
