Jonathan Kaspar Explores New Ground On ‘The Reason Why’ EP

Jonathan Kaspar is back on Crosstown Rebels with ‘The Reason Why’, a four-track EP that finds the German producer moving between stripped-back club pressure and more introspective territory.
Released on 28th August, the project follows Kaspar’s two remixes of label founder Damian Lazarus in 2025 and his ‘We Come’ EP from the previous year. It also lands after a busy summer that has included appearances at Fusion Festival, fabric, ELSE and Woodstock 69.
‘Take Control’ opens proceedings with one of the EP’s most direct club moments. Already tested extensively in Kaspar’s sets, the track strips things down to tense synth work, dusty drums and a tightly controlled groove.
The title track shifts the mood considerably. Bákayan provides the vocals for ‘The Reason Why’, bringing a soulful presence to a deeper, dreamier production that reveals another side of Kaspar’s current output.
His own voice then becomes part of the music across the final two tracks. ‘Play With Me’ uses Kaspar’s vocals within a slow-building late-night framework of trippy synth details and sci-fi textures, while ‘I Love Your Voice’ closes the EP at a more measured pace.
The latter carries a particularly personal message, built around the idea of holding onto the voices of the people who care about you when everything else becomes overwhelming. Its widescreen production gives the record a markedly different character from the tougher dancefloor material surrounding it.
The EP arrives during a productive period for Kaspar beyond Crosstown Rebels, with forthcoming remix work for Âme and Acid Pauli also on the horizon. Rather than settling into a single club formula, ‘The Reason Why’ gives Kaspar four tracks to explore different shades of his sound while retaining the rhythmic detail that connects his recent output.
