The Chicago-based duo Panfil & Rubh made their debut in 2022 with five tracks showcasing their unique tech and minimal house sound. Their releases have gained popularity on Beatport's Tech House Hype charts, with their last release of the year "In a Maze" reaching #15 on the top 100 chart.
In addition to charting, their releases have received support from top DJs such as CID, Ammo Avenue, Juanito, and Deeper Purpose. Fans can listen to their distinctive track selection and style on their monthly radio show "House Fluent," which is streamed on Data Transmission in the UK. ‘We Jack’ is the newest EP from duo, which was released in late-Feb on Gene Farris' Farris Wheel imprint. Thanks for joining us today. Where are you writing to us from, and what have you been up to over the last few weeks?
We are in our hometown of Chicago Illinois. We just got back into the studio, working on a few new original tracks and collaborations.
Tell us about your journey into music and what led you to this point.
To keep a long story short, we both were into electronic music growing up. Freshman year of college Kyle met a guy that DJ’d and ended up buying a pair of turntables and learned how to DJ. Dima took an interest in music production and we created a DJ group named Dreamst8 based out of Chicago. After Dreamst8 we took some time away from music and in 2020 during the pandemic we decided to make a song for fun, and to our surprise we got great feedback on the sound and style. So, we locked ourselves in the studio for the next two years and started releasing music under this new alias in 2022.
How do you effectively promote yourself as artists?
We have found collaborating and making connections is the best way for us to promote ourselves. Our radio show “House Fluent Radio” that’s broadcasted on Data Transmission each month, was the perfect way for us to start building those relationships. In addition, taking any opportunities like this interview to showcase who we are what we are up to.
Tell us about your latest release.
“We Jack” is a two track EP that was released on Farris Wheel Recordings, which is a hometown label owned by Chicago’s Gene Farris. This EP included two tracks “We Jack” and “For Da People”
What has the feedback been like from your latest release?
The feedback has been amazing on this release. Both tracks did really well on the Beatport charts, “For the People” peaked at #7 on Hype Tech House Top 100 chart and #51 on the Tech House Top 100 chart. “We Jack” peaked at #8 on Hype Tech House Top 100 chart and #58 on Tech House Top 100 chart.
In addition to Beatport success, we saw a lot of DJ support on this release from names like: Ayybo, Dan Marciano, Funkerman, Juanito, Rowen Clark and Westend to name a few.
How do you take care of your mental health?
Some things we do for mental health is to plan and set goals to not get overwhelmed. As of late we both have gotten more into health and exercise. We also practice gratitude and try to concentrate on positivity and positive thinking.
Talk us through your creative process.
Each track starts differently, but regardless how we begin our biggest concentration in our tracks is the groove and bassline. If we have a cool sample or vocal, we will build everything around that idea. Otherwise, we will start with a bassline and percussion and build the track around that.
What advice do you have for other artists?
We don’t know if we are in a position to start give advice to others yet. But, what we keep reminding ourselves is to keep pushing and keep releasing. There isn’t an easy path, and at times it seems like things aren’t progressing; but if you keep going and put your ego behind you, you will continue to grow.
What is your biggest goal this year, and how close are you to achieving it?
One of our biggest goals is to both be able to quit our day jobs and do music full time. We don’t think this will be obtainable this year, but it is in our 3 year plan.
Lastly, what can we expect from you in the future?
We are gonna keep doing what we are doing, making music and taking shows that fit us and makes sense. We hope to keep growing and connecting with people that may not know who we are yet.
