In a recent conversation, Eddy shared the creative process and the energy that fuels his music, giving insights into his vision behind the Bad Boy EP. When asked about the vibe he wanted to create, Eddy recalled, “Being in the studio setting, the vibe was an absolute must... I wanted a lot of energy and heavy bass.” Drawing inspiration from memories of “after-parties to party,” Eddy channelled that experience into the EP, especially in the title track, “Bad Boy.”

The title track stands out with a hypnotic vocal element punctuating the track alongside sharp, percussive beats. Eddy explained how this came together: “The vocal carried the track, helping it elevate to something thousands of people can sing along to... the drums had to be pumping; that is for sure what drives the track.” The result is a gritty, high-energy house anthem that embodies the pulse of the dancefloor.

Switching gears, “Jokes” brings a techier edge, complete with a driving bassline and icy high hats, giving the track a different feel while keeping Eddy P.’s essence. As Eddy puts it, this track was “definitely one for the ladies, something to get them hyped up for the night out.” With each track offering a unique vibe, Eddy consciously crafted distinct sounds while keeping his signature touch intact.

Closing out the EP, “N’Then” leans into a darker groove that’s impossible to resist. For Eddy, it was the perfect way to round off the project. “I think it’s just the perfect balance to the EP... ‘N’Then’ sets the tone to have you come back to the groove,” he shared. This track’s moody energy contrasts with the upbeat nature of the previous tracks, showcasing the versatility that makes the Bad Boy EP a standout release.

Eddy P. isn’t only an artist but also a label head, balancing his work with SoundWav Records and his own music career. “It was tough,” he admitted, “but ultimately, having a great team behind you really makes a big difference.” He added that working with his own label allows him creative freedom that sometimes isn’t possible with external labels, where “every label is just as unique as their sound, and sometimes that record may or may not fit.”

This freedom translates directly into the eclectic range of sounds on the Bad Boy EP. Eddy noted, “The Bad Boy EP definitely is a statement to showcase three different sounds in house music genres: Tech house and Minimal tech.” This range highlights his skills as a producer and reflects his DJing background, which heavily influences his approach. “DJing has a huge influence on how I produce tracks,” Eddy said. “Playing underground shows and digging for records really shapes my approach, especially when I’m in the booth.”

The release of Bad Boy on SoundWav Records isn’t the end of the line for Eddy. The label has exciting plans, including a fall compilation with various artists alongside SoundWav’s well-loved LA shows. As for his personal projects, Eddy teased, “I have a few releases coming out soon on some of my favourite labels… keep an eye out; these records coming up are some of the favourites I have in my sets lately.”

With Bad Boy, Eddy P. has delivered an EP that’s both versatile and true to his unique style, making it a must-listen for fans of house and tech-house alike. From the grittiness of “Bad Boy” to the late-night vibes of “N’Then,” this EP confirms Eddy P. as an artist to watch in 2024 and beyond.
