House music don David Morales dives deep into his Puerto Rican heritage with a sizzling new three-track project ‘Brooklyn Friends’. A Bandcamp-only release, this one’s soaked in Latin soul and jazz-infused sunshine, marking a deliciously organic contrast to Morales’ usual house heat.
"It's nice to change lanes when creating. It's what makes making music so enjoyable. The challenge to create something that people would never expect from you." - David Morales
Flanked by an elite crew of musicians including Axel Tosca on keys, Steve Thornton on percussion, and Slick Tim on bass, Morales conjures a rich, live sound that’s bursting with rhythm and spirit. ‘Boriqua’ and the title cut are lavish with Puerto Rican vibes, while a reimagined take on Tito Puente’s classic ‘Oye Como Va’ pays respectful homage while adding a fresh Morales twist. ‘Brooklyn Friends’ is a joyful, groove-drenched celebration of culture, roots and real musicianship.
