Daal & Bass Launch New Label With Bally-M’s ‘Realist’ EP

South Asian dance music platform Daal & Bass is launching its own record label, with UK producer and DJ Bally-M delivering the imprint’s debut release on 28th August. Pre-order/Save the 'Realist' EP here: https://hypeddit.com/ballym/realistep
The move expands Daal & Bass beyond its events and online platform, creating a dedicated home for artists exploring the meeting point between South Asian culture and underground electronic music.
Leading the label is Bally-M’s three-track ‘Realist’ EP, featuring ‘Tell Them’, ‘Jaali Riddim’ and ‘Steppa’. Across the project, the UK producer introduces what he describes as ‘Punjabi Jungle’, combining Punjabi vocals, instrumentation and cultural influences with the breaks and basslines of jungle and drum and bass.
“I grew up in a family where Punjabi music was always playing, but at the same time I was surrounded by Jungle and Drum & Bass,” explains Bally-M. “Those two worlds shaped me from day one. This EP is my way of blending the sounds I was raised on into something new.”
Rather than treating its South Asian influences as surface-level additions, ‘Realist’ places them at the centre of the project. For Bally-M, finding an authentic meeting point between the two musical cultures became an important part of its creation.
“I use Punjabi samples, instruments and vocals but I’m careful to blend them with jungle in a way that feels authentic, not just thrown together,” he says. “It’s about honouring both cultures properly. I’m not trying to recreate what came before, I’m trying to evolve it and bring it into a new era.”
The label launch represents the latest stage in Daal & Bass’ growth. The platform has built a sizeable online community through original content and events centred around South Asian rave culture, generating millions of monthly views while providing a platform for artists operating between cultural and musical scenes.
Daal & Bass founder Nico says establishing a record label was always part of that wider ambition.
“From day one Daal & Bass has been about more than reposts and parties, we’ve always wanted to build a proper home for South Asian-influenced club music. A label was the missing piece. Bally’s EP is exactly why this exists: it’s raw, it’s rooted in culture, and it pushes the sound forward without chasing trends. That’s the lane we’re backing.”
With ‘Realist’, Daal & Bass is setting out its intentions from its first release, providing a platform for underground electronic music shaped by South Asian identity without forcing it into established formulas.
