Spanish DJ and producer BLONDEX has never approached electronic music as a purely functional exercise. While her productions deliver the power, scale and impact expected of modern peak-time techno, there has always been something more cinematic sitting beneath the surface. Emotion, storytelling and world-building remain central to her identity, and nowhere is that more apparent than on her debut EXHALE EP, Twisted Reality.
Arriving via EXHALE, the four-track release sees BLONDEX draw together the trance influences that first made her fall in love with electronic music and the heavier techno energy that has shaped her rise in recent years. The result is a project that feels both deeply personal and designed for the dancefloor.
Music has been part of her life for as long as she can remember. Long before production entered the picture, she was already determined to become a DJ.
"What first drew me to electronic music was the pure, instant happiness it gave me," she says. "Whenever someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was always the same: a DJ."
After spending years behind the decks, production became the natural next step. More than simply creating music to play in her sets, it allowed her to develop a voice that was entirely her own.
"Creating your own music gives you the opportunity to tell your own story," she explains. "Standing in a booth and playing a record that came directly out of your own head and heart makes the connection with the dancefloor so much more intimate and real."
That storytelling instinct sits at the heart of Twisted Reality. Rather than approaching the EP as a collection of club tracks, BLONDEX envisioned it as a journey through shifting emotional and mental states.
"I've always been a very spiritual and mystical person," she says. "The concept behind Twisted Reality came from wanting to translate that sensitivity into the language of electronic music."
The project explores the blurred space between dreams, reality and altered perception. Each track represents a different stage within that journey, moving between moments of release, introspection and intensity.
Musically, the EP also showcases the sound BLONDEX has spent years refining. While techno dominates much of her current output, trance remains a constant influence.
"Trance has without a doubt been the genre that has influenced me the most throughout my life," she says. "I discovered techno later and was immediately captivated by its darker and more hypnotic side."
Rather than choosing between the two worlds, she eventually embraced both.
"Today, my sound is about building a bridge between those universes, bringing together the emotional energy of trance with the driving intensity of peak-time techno."
That fusion has become increasingly recognisable across her productions, helping her establish a distinctive identity within a scene that often favours clearly defined lanes.
Visual thinking also plays a significant role in her creative process. Tracks rarely begin as technical exercises. Instead, they start with emotions, images and imagined environments.
"When I'm in front of Ableton, I'm usually trying to capture a feeling rather than follow a technical plan," she says. "Sounds aren't just frequencies to me. They have textures, colours and landscapes."
That mindset perhaps explains why tracks such as '2 Shadows As 1' feel particularly immersive. The record also sees BLONDEX incorporate her own vocals, adding another layer of vulnerability to the project.
"Using my own voice felt like the most honest and organic way to communicate the emotion behind the track," she explains. "Club energy will always be at the core of what I do, but I also want my music to connect with people on a much deeper level."
The EP also marks an important milestone in her relationship with EXHALE and Amelie Lens, whose support has helped provide a platform for artists operating between traditional genre boundaries.

Throughout her career, BLONDEX has often felt caught between different corners of electronic music.
"Sometimes my music is considered too melodic for the underground scene, while at the same time being too heavy for the more commercial side," she says.
Finding a label that understood that balance proved invaluable.
"What I appreciate most about EXHALE is being surrounded by a team that genuinely believes in my vision and encourages me to keep developing my identity without compromise."
That confidence arrives at a time when her profile continues to grow rapidly. Appearances at major events including Awakenings and fabric have already established her as one of the more exciting names emerging from Europe's modern techno movement, while a debut appearance at Tomorrowland awaits this summer.
Despite the increasing scale of those opportunities, her approach remains unchanged.
"I still feel like the exact same girl with big dreams," she says. "My motivation remains exactly the same: to build a genuine connection with the dancefloor and tell my story through the music."
Away from touring, she remains conscious of maintaining balance. Time with family, cooking, her vegetarian lifestyle and life with her dog Neula provide an important counterweight to the demands of the industry.
"The music industry gives you incredible moments of euphoria, but the non-stop travel and pressure can easily sweep you away if you're not careful," she says. "Those small moments of normal life are what keep me grounded."
For BLONDEX, Twisted Reality represents more than just a debut EP on a dream label. It feels like a statement of intent.
"I wanted to reveal a much deeper side of who I am, both musically and personally," she says. "This EP is an important milestone, but it's definitely not the final destination. It's the beginning of a whole new chapter."
With its blend of trance euphoria, techno intensity and deeply personal storytelling, Twisted Reality suggests that chapter is only just getting started.
