AlphaTheta Introduces HDJ-F9 Wireless DJ Headphones With SonicLink
AlphaTheta has announced the HDJ-F9, a professional on-ear wireless DJ headphone designed to make cable-free monitoring practical in the booth. It uses the company’s SonicLink system to minimise the delay that has traditionally made wireless headphones unsuitable for beatmatching.
AlphaTheta says SonicLink latency can be as low as nine milliseconds. Even a modest delay can make accurate cueing difficult when a DJ is listening to the main sound system and headphones simultaneously.
Touch Pairing is supported with compatible equipment, including the DJM-V5 mixer following a firmware update. Other setups require the separately available HP-TX01 SonicLink transmitter, making compatibility important for prospective buyers.
Wireless listening is common for everyday use but remains less established in professional DJ booths. Reliability, monitoring response and connectivity will determine whether this technology can replace conventional wired headphones in performance settings.
The headphones are scheduled to become available in late October. DJs considering an upgrade should check their existing setup before assuming wireless pairing will work without additional hardware.
