- Marie Vaunt: Pushing Boundaries with Her Signature Acid Sound and a Nostalgic Twist
Marie Vaunt has carved a distinctive space in the electronic music world since her breakout track Witchcraft in 2018. The Japanese American producer and DJ burst onto the scene with her dark, acid-driven techno sound, earning widespread recognition and opening doors to collaborations with major labels like Drumcode, Arcane, and Kneaded Pains. Now, with over 7.6 million Spotify streams and a busy tour schedule ahead, Marie continues to push boundaries and evolve her artistry. Reflecting on Witchcraft, Marie shares how it marked a turning point in her career. “It was the first techno track I released, and I wanted to capture a dark, otherworldly energy,” she explains. “It was an experiment in stepping outside my comfort zone, and when it resonated with listeners, it connected me to a global audience who shared my love for the darker side of music.” Fast-forward to 2025, and Marie is set to release Secrets, her highly anticipated two-track EP on Eli Brown’s Arcane label. The EP showcases her signature acid-heavy sound with a twist of 90s dance nostalgia. The title track, Secrets, delivers thunderous basslines and looping synths, while This Is How blends vintage house vocals and breakbeats with modern production. “The 90s were transformative for dance music, and I’ve always felt a connection to that raw energy,” says Marie. “With This Is How, I wanted to pay homage to that era while exploring new dimensions of my sound.” Pre-order Marie's 'Secrets' EP here: https://bfan.link/secrets-marie-vaunt. Marie’s ability to stay true to her style while adapting to diverse labels has been key to her success. “Every label has its own ethos, but I see it as a collaboration, not a compromise,” she says. Her dedication has led to milestones like charting three tracks simultaneously on Beatport and hitting #1 on the Techno Peak Time chart with Darkroom. “Darkroom stood out because of its blend of traditional Japanese instruments and folklore-inspired vocals with hard-hitting kicks and acid elements,” she explains. On stage, Marie’s performances are a journey of sound and connection. With upcoming shows at Dreamstate San Francisco, EDC Las Vegas, and more, she’s focused on crafting unique experiences. “Preparation is about balancing my personal sound with the energy of the event,” she says. “Once I’m on stage, I feed off the crowd and let instinct take over.” She cites her performance at Creamfields as a career highlight: “Standing on that huge stage with thousands of people moving to my music was surreal. It’s a memory I’ll carry with me forever.” Marie’s remix work is equally impressive, with reimagined tracks for ASY*S and Kai Tracid among her credits. “When I approach a remix, I aim to honour the original while introducing my own perspective,” she notes. This balance of familiarity and transformation has become a hallmark of her artistry. Streaming platforms have played a crucial role in Marie’s rise, but she remains focused on authenticity. “Streaming has democratised music access, but it’s also a competitive space,” she reflects. “I focus on releasing music that resonates with me rather than chasing algorithms.” With Secrets dropping on January 24th and a lineup of acid bangers set to release later this year on Kurai Records, 2025 promises to be another landmark year for Marie Vaunt. “I’ve got collaborations with some artists I truly admire and so much more in the works,” she teases. “I can’t wait for everyone to hear what’s coming.” Marie Vaunt https://www.facebook.com/MarieVaunt https://www.instagram.com/marievaunt https://open.spotify.com/artist/50KydUSYhBFGorhAgUcrL5 https://soundcloud.com/marievaunt

- Marlò Makes Bold Statement with MidiTrip Records Debut and ‘Rave Is Now’ EP
Marlò has opened an exciting new chapter in her career with the launch of MidiTrip Records, a label co-founded with Salih Topuz. Her debut release, the Rave Is Now EP, is a love letter to the late ’80s and early ’90s rave scene, delivering three tracks packed with nostalgic energy and modern dancefloor appeal. Featuring classic analogue sounds and a fresh perspective, Marlò’s first foray into label ownership highlights her dedication to the underground music she holds dear. Grab your copy of the album via Bandcamp: https://miditriprecords.bandcamp.com/album/rave-is-now. Speaking about the motivation behind the EP and the label, Marlò explains, “Rave Is Now is an EP that aims to capture the vibe of rave music from the ’80s and ’90s, a genre I absolutely love. This is the real music—the music that originated in warehouses and underground scenes. It combines the raw energy of techno with melodic elements like pianos and emotional synths, which give tracks a sense of meaning. That’s the ethos of both the EP and the label.” The title track, Rave Is Now, sets the tone with gritty synth hooks, crunchy drums, and choppy stabs, reminiscent of early rave sounds but reimagined for modern dancefloors. The second track, You, delivers shimmering piano lines and a bumpy bassline, while What Is That? closes the EP with cinematic flair, featuring trance-tinged synths and airy arpeggios. Marlò’s love for electronic music started in her hometown of Chieti, Italy, and blossomed in Bologna, where she gained experience working with the LED X collective and Slow Motion Records. These opportunities allowed her to cut her teeth in legendary venues like Tipografia in Pescara and Link in Bologna. After moving to Istanbul at 22 for her master’s degree, Marlò quickly became a key figure in Turkey’s electronic music scene. “When I arrived, there weren’t many female DJs in Turkey; I was one of the first. I became a resident at Suma Beach, where I played alongside internationally renowned DJs and performed at some of the country’s biggest festivals,” she reflects. Currently a resident at Istanbul’s historic MiniMuzikhol and a host of a weekly radio show on Radio 2019, Marlò continues to push boundaries with her eclectic sound. “I don’t like to define myself by one genre,” she says. “I play what I love, adapting to the vibe of the dancefloor.” The Rave Is Now EP has already garnered support from influential names like DJ Harvey, Jamie Jones, and Elevate Berlin, signalling a promising start for MidiTrip Records. Looking ahead, Marlò reveals plans for the label’s next release: “We have another EP coming out next month featuring tracks by myself and Salih, and later this spring, we’ll release our second vinyl EP. There’s also an exciting collaboration with some Italian producer friends, but I can’t share more details just yet!” On the live front, Marlò is gearing up for a string of shows, including her debut at London’s iconic fabric club in February. “Playing at Fabric has always been a dream of mine, so this gig is very special,” she says with palpable excitement. Beyond the studio and the DJ booth, Marlò has found joy in personal growth, discovering the power of meditation in 2024. “I’ve never been very spiritual, but meditation has helped me find balance and clarity in my goals,” she shares. “It’s brought me a sense of peace that has positively influenced my work and relationships. I hope to carry this energy into 2025, inspiring and uplifting those around me.” With a thrilling EP, a promising label launch, and a clear vision for the future, Marlò is set to make 2025 a standout year for herself and the electronic music community she’s helping to shape.
